Almost £1,300 in credit to energy supplier - take it all back

I checked my account with Scottish Power last night to find I'm almost £1,300 in credit to them. I realise I really should get some of this back. I'm just wondering if it's worth asking for £1,000 and staying a bit in credit is a good idea or taking the full whack. Would appreciate any thoughts!

Make sure you are really £1300 in credit, is your latest bill based on actual readings?
  • I’m in credit, though not to that amount; I ended the winter with around a third of your credit. My current direct debit takes this into account. Were I to withdraw my credit, I’d expect my direct debit to jump up to reflect this. My math has my current dd around £40 lower per month than what it would be had I not carried credit over.

Do your sums and see how they make you feel.

When did you last get a bill based on Actual readings ?

Read your meter and givr the readings to SP and get an up to date bill.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

If you haven't been billed in the last 30 days most of that could be swallowed up by a bill.

have a look at your last bill and look at your meter readings on that bill

now look at your current meter readings, work out the difference and try to work out approximately how much you owe them

you can deduct that from the 1300 pounds and that will give you a true indication of your current position

Do SP do 6 monthly billing? That would explain a lot. When they finally generate the bill, it'll take a healthy chunk out of that balance.

SP will ask you to take a reading if they haven't been sent one for 3 months. I guess they'd send an estimated bill if it wasn't received.

Always take a reading of the meters, electric and gas, assuming you have both, then take the present reading from the previous reading. With smart meters the electric is 1 unit to 1 kWh and with gas it's 11.3 kWh to 1 unit this will give you a rough idea of the electric and gas that's being used then you add the number of days between the reading by the daily SC's to make it simple just add the two SC's for one day together then multiply by the number of days between the bills. I always use the readings with the 5% VAT added so that no other calculation is needed after working out the bill.
Someone please tell me what money is

I only just saw this - i’ve got a separate thread that I’ve been rebilled going back over the last year by them onto a different tariff and sent a £500 bill as a result.  I wonder if they’re having some issues.
