You do realise that Mrs Baggins has probably moved on to a new burrow since she made her original post... 8 years ago!

:rotfl: Whoops I blame the mods for keeping the post alive for so long
Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.

Also, does anyone think a loft insulation board laid flat in there could work, the celotex type ones?

Yes, I think that would be perfect. Cellotex would work, though any sheet will work just as well. You don't need the insulation given the small area.

For one of my chimneys that just has dried flowers in it I just used an old sheet of plywood, cut to size, with a few small holes drilled in it.

In my disused fireplace in the dining room I put some 40mm polystyrene up there and put a 20-30mm hole in the middle.

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
  • Wondering if anyone who has used a chimney balloon can help - do you need an electric inflater to blow them up?
