My dad took his Toyota to a Toyota dealership for brake pad change. The new ones squealed really bad. He asked how Toyota pads could be so bad. "Oh we don't use Toyota parts. They are far too expensive."Stateofart said:Chegg said:Thanks for the advice all, not what I was wanting to hear, especially with the extra cost/time inconvenience of the nearest Toyota dealer being so far. But again, thanks all
Think about it this way. You're getting Toyota warranty work, at a Toyota dealer, using Toyota staff and Toyota parts...sounds like it's worth the trip to me. Get a courtesy car and you're sorted.0 -
Should have fitted Textar pads, that’s what was fitted when new.Ibrahim5 said:

Large label on pad says Toyota, to the side in a smaller font it says Textar.0 -
My dad expected a Toyota main dealer to use Toyota parts. They were saying that he had the wrong idea. They just fitted the cheapest they could get. The Toyota ones were too expensive.0

Sounds unlikely, I bet your dad asked for it to be done as cheaply as possible because the genuine parts were too expensive for him.Ibrahim5 said:My dad expected a Toyota main dealer to use Toyota parts. Toyota dealers will not fit non-OEM parts as it voids the warranty.

He probably made the mistake of not asking for a copy of the franchise agreement when he took it in for new brake pads.0

Don't forget Toyota will provide a new warranty every year for up to ten years old 100k miles if you have it serviced with them.Provided you have the service Toyota recommend- so if it is at the age when every single part of the car has to be wiped with an oily rag for a cost of £600 you have to have that one, rather than the £200 oil change service you want because you've only done 6000 miles from new.You also have to get any issue found at the health check fixed.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

if it was under the manufacturers warranty then they would fit Toyota branded parts if however it was a dealer warranty then yes they would fit whatever parts gives them the best margin.Ibrahim5 said:

I'd be surprised if the franchise agreement didn't insist on Toyota parts under all circumstances. Any problems attributed to hooky parts would inevitably reflect badly on the brand.Robbo66 said:
