CCJ surprise

Hi, I have received a CCJ alert on my credit karma profile. Turns out it was unpaid ticket from 2019 which was originally issued by UK parking control limited. The initial ticket claimed that I have left the site (parking was allowed only for clients of the nearby shops) - still don't know how they knew I left site. Anyway... skip few years forward I have just found out about the CCJ on my file. It was done in March so I cannot remove this judgment by paying it fully... My question is what options do I have now? I genuinely did not know about any case filed against me. The letters were delivered to my old address but I never gave the new address to the parking company. I only updated it In banks, poll, hmrc etc. Moreover since then I have moved out of the country so now it makes everything even more complicated. I am planning to return in the next couple of years tho so I would like to get it sorted. What is my best shot? Should I just pay and wait 6 years for it to disappear from my profile? I called the CCBC and they advised me I can apply for N244 form and the judge will decide but I will have to attend the hearing and if I lose the case I have to pay additional £240 of court fees. The lady said I can also contact the parking company and settle down the payment and then ask for court to remove it from my file... Just don't quite now what's the best course of action is.
Thank you for any kind of advice.

    Welcome!
Please read the relevant sticky thread for NEWBIES to read first.

Did you miss that this is covered in the CCJ set aside section of the second post of the NEWBIES thread?  We do these every week!

You'll get your £275 back too if the Judge agrees. UKPC failed to check your current address before litigation, which is a breach of the CPRs and the BPA Code of Practice.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Even if you pay the CCJ now your credit score will still be impacted as it is over 30 days since the judgment.  If you want to remove it you will need to apply for a set aside ASAP. This should be a mandatory set aside as the claimants or their solicitors have served the claim to the wrong address. They are at least meant to check the address for service which only costs them 29p. However by not bothering they get lots of default CCJs just like yours which earns them even more money.

They will have absolutely no evidence of you leaving the site. Probably they just have photos of your vehicle parked with a time stamp.

Yep no paying it.  No phoning the scammers.

Setting aside a CCJ usually means our posters also beat the PCN too - and when the £275 is paid back to them by the parking firm (most cases) it means victims pay nothing at all.

This is probably the only way that the muppets at UKPC could get this leaving site scam through court, I wouldn't mind betting they brag about this on their (already misleading) website without mentioning they won by default though!
  • The thing is from what i understood tho that I would have to go to court myself in person which might be a bit problematic giving the fact I’m not in the country at the moment.

There will be no hearing 'at the moment', or even tomorrow.
    Think... several months away.

Court hearings are routinely carried out by phone or video calls these days.
  • thank you so much for all your input. So I guess the next step would be to send the N244 form..
just one more thing as I just realised I never updated my DVLA driving license address... would that cause me more trouble?
All I care about at this point is my credit score which was perfect up until now...

It is important to update driving licence and V5C every time you move.  I believe you can do this on-line: -
