Car hire; Credit Card changed, have to cancel booking

Has anyone else seen this?
Back last December I prebooked and paid for Car Hire in France using my Jaja credit card. With Europcar.
Jaja have since cancelled my CC account (along with many others, plenty of threads about that on this forum and elsewhere)
As Hols are approaching I checked the details of the Car hire. Noticed that it stated 'You must present the card you booked with'
Checked with Europcar, their response was 'You must present the card you booked with. If thats not possible you must cancel and rebook'. Obviously thats not possible! So have done as asked, cancelled and rebooked (bit of a faff, their website and loyalty scheme sign up is hopeless)
Anyway, actually £20 cheaper, which wasn't expected. So could have been worse... Anyone else had this?
So, 2 questions:
1 - What would my rights have been if the rebooking had been more expensive, or not available? Probably none, so be careful out there everyone! If you think youve got a confirmed booking... you haven't (if your CC expires, is lost, is stolen, or is just cancelled like mine was.)
2 Anyone know what will happen to my refund? If they try and refund in to my Jaja CC will it just vanish as it no longer exists? Not looking forward to that fun?
General observation: Car Hire companies seem horrible to deal with, in so many respects. Always have been to be honest.
