Massive reduction in holiday price.

Booked a holiday on 15 March starting 4 July for 11days, price £3975pp. Offer was a reduction of £770pp. As of 30 May price reduced to £2383pp, a reduction of more than 40% on the price paid. At time of booking I had asked if the price would be further reduced. The response was that it was selling well and no further reduction was expected. In the meantime, if I was to see it advertised at a lower price then I should contact the company again. This I did on 7 June but did not receive a positive response. They have checked the phone conversation and say that as they did not confirm that they would reduce the price and because they do not have a price promise then there is no refund. I feel that in the initial booking conversation they intimated to me that something could be done if I saw a further reduction in the price. I await a response from their managing director to whom I have written. To me this amount of reduction totally devalues the holiday that I have booked. Their customer care manager had no answer as to why such a large reduction had been made, only to say that it was a seasonal offer to sell the holidays advertised for 24 June through to 10 October, so as to avoid any cancellations. She also had no idea if they were still making a profit on this much reduced price. My holiday starting 4 July is not under threat of cancellation as I have already had the tickets. I would not have booked the holiday when I did without the intimation received during the initial conversation. I would welcome any ideas as to what I can do next, if anything.
