Why have prices gone through the roof ?
I have a sim only contract with EE which is £9 per month ( was £8 per month initially ) and get about 8GB of data ( 24month contract )
If I look at sim only contracts now with EE.. the cheapest is £14 per month.. for 1GB ?!?!
Are the prices going insane or am I missing something here ?

If you look at comparison sites you'll likely find much better deals.Official MSE Forum Team member. Please report all problem posts to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com3

I understand EE are well known for not being particularly cheap. If you want to use the EE network consider 1pMobile who are cheaper1

If you're asking why prices have gone up where have you been?
Brexit, covid, war in Ukraine
Cost of living crisis.
If you're asking whether £14 pm for 1gb is competitive then no. Not unless it comes with a lot of bells and whistles.1 -
I’m paying no more today for my mobile service than I was 6, 7 or maybe 8 years ago. Only now I get unlimited minutes and texts and a higher data allowance. I avoid the main networks!

Now that EE have withdrawn from price comparison websites it's become a little harder to find their discounted deals.
I agree, their standard SIM pricing is far from good value, however you can find deals like 20GB for £9 a month and 100GB for £13.50 a month with a quick Google search
Other options include MVNOs operating on EE like Talk Home Mobile who offer rolling 1 month contracts and currently seriously discounted plans for the first 3 months like 50GB @ £4.50 and 100GB at just £6.
Other MVNOs using EE include 1P Mobile and iQ Mobile who also offer cheaper plans than EE direct.0 -
EE direct for sim only plans are ridiculously expensive. Via BT I can currently get 20gb with them for £9 a month which is ok, but it's a 2yr contract so has 2 price increases in it plus I'll be tied in. The EE network is faster where I am than O2, plus I can get 4g calling etc so I'm porting across from Sky to 1pmobile tomorrow to one of their boosts. It costs a bit more a month (the 1yr deal with EE would be more) but only a rolling 30 day sim so I can leave anytime if needed, I can also easily change the data boost each month.
If you're happy with an O2 or Three MVNO then there are cheaper deals to be had.0 -

I can find a new iPhone 11 with 50GB of Data for £22 per month 24month contract. So the prices for some stuff is very reasonable.
Sim cards, specifically though, are way too expensive on their own from what I can see. That is my point.0 -

On other networks and providers - not so much.I mean, if you're not fussed on network provider, then it's relatively easy to get (for example) 70GB data from £10 a month, 100GB from £12 a month and unlimited from £16 a month on sim only. The key thing is to shop around.0 -
