SKYTV Return Equipment Contract

My SkyQ package is out of contract shortly & due to the 35% increase in subscription costs (for exactly what i have), i have cancelled all services to coincide with the end of the contract date. At the end of the telephone conversation, i was informed that the equipment is on loan & that they require it back, which i was aware of & have no problem with. & that they will impose a fine (the sky employee terminology) of £160, if they do not receive the items within 60 days; again, i have no issue with this. However, i was informed that Sky will post out pre-paid packaging & that i "must" take it to the post office to facilitate this. My local post office is a car ride away.....in order to meet their demands, i would have to take the time to dismantle all of the equipment that the engineer installed, package it up, pay for the fuel, use my private vehicle & drive to the post office, walk from the car park & stand in a queue & then make the journey home. Maybe i'm naive, but surely this is ridiculous? Virgin once asked me the same & i told them that my fees are £70ph, £30 expenses for fuel, wear & tear on my vehicle & a one-off administration fee of £50....they sent someone to collect. Are Sky just trying it on?

I’ve just sent my Sky Q box and mini box back today after waiting for 40 days for them to make me an offer. It’s very easy to fold out the box they send, put the equipment in and seal it. Then I just attached the prepaid label, drive a mile to the nearest PO and handed it in. Proof of postage and back home. I couldn’t be bothered arranging a collection but it’s very easy to do too. I have not missed Sky one bit. Dug out my old Sky+ HD box and Humax box, plugged in a firestick and I have virtually everything I had before.

Which would be more inconvenient. Taking 5 plugs out of the back of the Sky box, putting it in a cardboard box and taking to the Post Office at your convenience or waiting doing all of the unplugging ang then waiting around, potentially all day, for a courier to collect?

Whatever you do keep the receipt for the postage. I sent two packages back and about a month or two later an email stating they where charging me for all the equipment I didn't send back.

Luckily I had taken photos of the receipts and they had received everything back (about 2 days after returning) they must have really bad processing procedures for both to flag up a month after they had them back.

Jesus, talk about moaning about nothing. It took me 10 minutes to disconnect and pack everything and I dropped it off the next time I was near the post office

I'd second this. They also claimed not to have received my package(s) back. Fortunately I had photos of the receipts etc. Took a couple of phone calls and emails to resolve but eventually we got there!

takes about 5 minutes to unplug the equipment and package it up.

sometimes we have to put a little bit of work in to run our lives - you can't bill your time for everything!

You agreed to return the equipment, no chance of  billing them for your time. SImply pay the £160 or take 5 minutes to disconnect the equipment and post it back. Pick your battles
