Minimal Gas Use - Can I change supplier
Just wondering is it worth trying to change my gas supply from the abysmal Scottish Power when I hardly use any? I'm on a prepayment meter and over the last 12 months have spent around £170 - barely more than the standing charge. I'm stuck with Scottish Power for my electric as there is an ongoing dispute over a faulty smart meter. Any thoughts?

It's a rented property so cutting off the gas is not an option - prepayment was installed before my time so no problem with changing to a credit meter.Debt Free Wannabe by 1 December 2027

Is bankruptcy still on your credit file?
Some suppliers do a credit search and you could be asked to pay a deposit which is refunded after 6 DD payment0 -
Since everyone is paying much the same under the price cap, there is little point in switching at present.
Why would you even consider disconnecting the gas supply, when electricity costs 350% more per kWh?No free lunch, and no free laptop

I'm not sure what the current options are for gas-only switches, but you could give Octopus a call / email / social media message and see if they'll take you?Depending on the nature of your electricity dispute, you might be able to switch that too.

I'm just fed up with Scottish Power which is probably the worst energy supplier in the UK to try and deal with. I just raised the fact that it's a rented property and that disconnection is not an option as it has been suggested in the past. I don't actually use that much electric either - less than £1 a day once the standing charge is discounted.macman said:Since everyone is paying much the same under the price cap, there is little point in switching at present.

The problem with the electric is a dodgy meter so feel that it is unlikely anyone will want to take that one on!QrizB said:I'm not sure what the current options are for gas-only switches, but you could give Octopus a call / email / social media message and see if they'll take you?Depending on the nature of your electricity dispute, you might be able to switch that too.Debt Free Wannabe by 1 December 2027
