How to Terminate O2 Contract and Claim Final Cashback?
Hi
As the title says...
My O2 contract with the CPW expires on 21 Feb.
1. When should i ring them up?
2. I need to send my 12th Airtime Bill - I think this is the one received around Jan 21st
Should i ring them AFTER I've received the cashback or after I've sent it off or ???
Very confused here peeps...

hi
i think u have to give a months notice neway but id wait till i got the cash back just in case.0 -
Cashback has zilch to do with terminating at the end of the 12 months. All you do by "waiting" is pay them more money.0

There are a few options to consider
1) When will the bill for your final cash be printed and mailed to you?
2) Do you want to port the number to a new contract
3) Are you sure the bill will meet the cash back criteria e.g.<30 days old no outstanding balances etc
If you have thought about all these things, then look at a calender and work out when you need to give notice in your case it might be 30 days. Check with O2 to see what the notice period is.
Then if you are porting make sure you can port your number to you new contract when you order. Also check quidco and other factors when ordering.
Remember that porting and canceling are not the same but you need 30 days for each! So you cannot cancel and then with 15 days left request a port.
I'd phone O2 and check that 30 before the need of 12 months you can give notice and port.
If you do not need to port just cancel.
If your new contract is with the SAME provider just port via another company with a PAYG sim.Seth.0 -

The first 2 are one year old (connection date) on 11 Jan 2008
So 30 before would be 11 Dec 2007 so this is the earliest date I can call cancell my airtime.
My Bill is printed on the 3rd of each month and I need the Jan 3rd bill for my last month 12 claim.
Notice also that had I given notice to cancel my contract I cannot ask for a PAC later as a PAC needs 30days of contract remaining!
The PAC 30 period and the 30 Notice period are not the SAME. You must ask for a PAC if you want to port your number AND give 30 days notice to end your contract
In my case I do not want to port so I will get a new number.
But for my 3rd phone I do want to port so I will pay for some airtime I'll never use as the airtime contracts must over lap this paid but unusable period may be up to a month. The date for the 3rd handset is 29th Dec 2007 on this date I need to to ask for a PAC and terminate.
I've not asked for a PAC recently and the 30 day port period might be reduced now. Worth checking this with your provider.
Most air time companies will send you a closing bill in month 13, thought you may not need this.
Read the small print of your cash back as many need bills <30 days old at time of claim!
Remember call centre staff are trained to get you not to cancel, I tell them I'm emigrating to stop them trying
DO NOT TAKE OFFERS OF FREE HANDSETS ETC as these will lock you in for another 12 or 18 months!
The BEST deals are for NEW customers
1) Cancel and get PAC if you want to port
2) Get new deal 12m with 12m cashback from a big company (e.g. e2save OSPS)
3) Delete cookies and use quidco
4) Order one phone at a time to get MAX quidco
5) Sort out your paperwork, vouchers, dates (including cancellation) when you get the phone.Seth.0 -
Thanks Seth for taking the time to explain.
All the best0 -
FYI I called when I called Virgin to cancel, they were really polite!
Their system is all automated and sent me a text to tell me my phone would revert to a PAYG SIM after my contract end date. They also confirmed
1) My Jan Bill (I need these for Cashback) will be sent out on the normal date
2) My DD will stop after the 13th Jan
3) I could have call any time before the 12th Jan to cancel no need for 30days notice!
I must say that the Virgin customer support is excellent. I was on Orange and the used to call them at 2am just to get through! Mind you virgin charge for calls to customer services flat 10p or 0845 from landline.
Told them I was emigrating and asked for PAC they send these out via post...
Now off to find a good 12month free offer!
I can only see the dreaded "PRICE MATCH" ones from OSPS where if you miss one claim, you give up your rights to the rest!!!Seth.0 -
Thanks again Seth.
My contract is with O2 via the CPW.
My contract started on 21st Feb 07, so i need to ring them up around 20th Jan 2008?0
