Solar Exporting

I had solar panels and batteries installed in March.  It took over a month to get the required documents for SEG (Solar export) and have been with British Gas for 7 weeks with no completion in sight.  Meanwhile, the panels are exporting lots of electricity to them.   Are they getting this for free until they finally get back to me?  if so, seems in their interests to drag their heels....

The exported electricity just goes into the grid, nobody is getting paid for it.

How much will BG pay you per kWh?

You're not exporting it to them .

Nobody is dragging their heels, there's no conspiracy.

Dealing with this, just like any other balancing activity is one of the socialised costs of the grid.

Your meter needs an export MPAN. Some DNOs are very slow at providing one. You could give your DNO a call.

fwiw, I applied with Scottish Power and as part of the application, it asks 'did I have a Smart meter with an export dial'? If so, what is the meter reading. I had to take a photo etc. As it says on their website Due to the various checks we need to undertake, the processing of your application can take 6-8 weeks, but don’t worry - we’ll work from the meter readings you provide as part of your application so you’ll not miss out on any payments.

Reading that ,I'll be paid from that reading, no matter how long the application might actually take to complete - it's been 5 weeks already.

Whether BG is the same...all you can do is ask?

Your supplier can only access the export side of your meter when it has an export MPAN: that is, one smart meter: two MPANs.

Thanks all.  BG is saying 4.6p/kWh.
    All conditions, certificates were fulfilled.
No, they didn't say they'd backdate it but if one says then I guess the SEG must apply to all.

The only company that will give you what its worth is Octopus, 15p as standard but for, far more on Flux tariff.

And Octopus will most definitely want an export MPAN.
  • to export / sell un-used or excess power,, (1000KWh units) to an leccy supplier you will firstly need to have your own Smart Meter installed in the installation wiring of your solar system. This is connected to your inverter,  Inverter manufacturers will recommend which type is most suited to the inverter.
This new smart meter, once configured into the system can be set, in various ways and parameters. Such as,,, the percentage of power, to be exported. and importantly, the battery re - charge times. specially important if your on an eco 7 tariff. where you set the re-charge times to take advantage of the cheaper off peak rate..
But be aware,,,,,  supply companies change the eco 7 / off peak times when the cocks in the uk change. (Example) one company has two off peak times,, so the 7 hours are split,, (ie) 2 hours and 5 hours with a 2 hour higher normal rate between. So, assuming you have set your Smart Meter  when installed between the autumn to spring period, to re-charge your batteries at the start of the 5 hour period, and the clocks move forward , by one hour.. You will be re-charging your batteries at rate 2, peak rate normal cost per KWh unit. Of course the clock change in spring will return your re -charging period back to the cheaper rate 2, off peak rate.
My leccy supplier has done this to me,, and have refused to change it.
The issue is now being investigated.
So, is exporting /selling your excess energy to the suppliers,,, ?
In my opinion no it is not.. Better to make use of the energy yourself.

Your very first statement is incorrect.
I'm disinclined to critique the remainder of your post.
