I noticed one of the dials of the Dualit it states "unplug after use fire risk"
Do people do this?

What legisation? Unless the OP bought directly from Dualit then they have no contract with Dualit who do not need to engage at alllibra10 said:I've had my Dualit toaster for around 20 years now, and never experienced any problems. Also, have a Dualit kettle which is working fine, although well out of guarantee.
Am sure that if the toaster failed to last more than a year, current legislation would force the manufacturers to help.0 -
Never see the point in buying expensive kettles or toasters. They all probably use the same basic internals as the cheaper brands but with different shapes and colours.0

Same here. Last one was a white plastic one. A Kenwood, so not the very cheapest but still pretty standard.jackieblack said:I’ve only ever bought cheap/own brand supermarket toasters. Used at least once a day, I only replace when they ‘die’ and I’ve only needed to buy 3 in the last 36 years. 🤷🏻♀️I question the ‘high price due to build quality’ claim of expensive/trendy brands…
Used nearly every day for at least 10 years, maybe longer, before it had to be replaced.0 -
That is a thing of beauty, though I wouldn’t buy it just for making toast. I used (the equivalent model) Dualit many moons ago when working in a coffee shop; these things can toast a sandwich (using the cage) in a way I’ve not been able to replicate since, using a grill or anything else. Would catch on fire from time to time (all the olive oiled bread); damp tea towel, quick waft of the hand, and back to business as usual.Rodders53 said:
Dualit still make repairable toasters:
https://www.dualit.com/products/4-slice-newgen is the equivalent repairable model around twice the price.0 -
OP you bought the “cheap” dualit which isnt repairable , I have just bought the same one ( about £110) and it was quite clear on their website that the one I bought is not repairable
the repairable ones are around £2000 -
My question to Dualit was regarding the actual toasting process being that it doesn't toast evenly on both sides of the slice all 4 elements glow red so they are working, I know that but their only reply was the elements are soldered in !!!.letsbehonest said:Just a friendly heads up regarding Dualit toasters, A decent build quality attractive and user friendly and a bit expensive.
My experience as an owner of a Dualit Architect 4 slot toaster. Following a recent enquiry to Dualit regarding a small problem with our toaster I am informed that the heating elements cannot be replaced because they are spot welded in place they cannot be repaired. This feature I have never come across in many years of toaster use and the occasional element repair.
The bottom line is if you buy one of these expensive toasters and after the years warranty expires should it go wrong then you have to throw it away and buy another toaster."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0 -
For interest: “Which” last reviewed toasters earlier this year. The top ranked toaster was a Dualit, details below. This is for a 2 slot

You won't have to wait long for your snack with this toaster as it's very quick, and takes less than two-and-a-half minutes to serve up two slices of perfectly browned toast. It gets even faster if you pop another round in when the toaster's still warm, so you'll have time for another quick slice while the kids sort out their school bags in the morning.
The toast is consistently brilliant. You won't have to worry about it being patchy or one face being browner than the other.
The carriage lever and dial protrude well and are easy to use, and the crumb tray is also effective.
We often find toasters that are too small to toast large slices, but this is better than most, so you'll be able to fit thick crumpets and tall toastie-style slices in the slots, as well as standard breads.
