Dualit toaster's

Just a friendly heads up regarding Dualit toasters, A decent build quality attractive and user friendly and a bit expensive.
My experience as an owner of a Dualit Architect 4 slot toaster. Following a recent enquiry to Dualit regarding a small problem with our toaster I am informed that the heating elements cannot be replaced because they are spot welded in place they cannot be repaired. This feature I have never come across in many years of toaster use and the occasional element repair.
The bottom line is if you buy one of these expensive toasters and after the years warranty expires should it go wrong then you have to throw it away and buy another toaster.

I’ve only ever bought cheap/own brand supermarket toasters. Used at least once a day, I only replace when they ‘die’ and I’ve only needed to buy 3 in the last 36 years. 🤷🏻♀️I question the ‘high price due to build quality’ claim of expensive/trendy brands…2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

Thought about having one of those Dualit the last few times need to replace our toasters.Have only bought respectable brands roughly every 2 to 3 years, if you dont use of course they will last 36 years!0

I've had my Dualit toaster for around 20 years now, and never experienced any problems. Also, have a Dualit kettle which is working fine, although well out of guarantee.
Am sure that if the toaster failed to last more than a year, current legislation would force the manufacturers to help.

This surprised me as our Dualit toaster was sold as fully repairable. But it turns out that not all of their models make that claim. That's regretful. I wonder how many people will see one being sold as fully repairable and assume that they all are.
fyi - we're on our second - only because the first was a slightly cheaper model with plastic casing which cracked. We got the better version about 5 years back and it's still fine. First one was still working ok so I freecycled it and presume it's still in use.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. My dualit toaster is probably 15 years old and is in almost daily use, I have no complaints!:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0

Same here re longevity. Used one for many years and still with the same elements and mechanical rotary timer, which, fortunately, are easy to change. I do have a spare set, just in case. It's a shame if they've gone down the disposable/non repairable route.I remember, years ago, they used to fit a mercury switch to turn off the power when the "eject" lever was operated. That used to be problematical.Keep it simple.0

OP bought the wrong Dualit. https://www.dualit.com/products/architect-4-slot-toaster?_pos=1&_sid=d3a3608ef&_ss=r is one of their cheaper non-repairable models.
Dualit still make repairable toasters:
https://www.dualit.com/products/4-slice-newgen is the equivalent repairable model around twice the price.
I had my 2 slice one apart recently as one element seemed to be not working. A good clean up and reassemble and it is working fine again.
I did recycle a toaster last week from our touring caravan days. Bought in the late 70s but still working fine. Possibly a Rowenta like this https://www.reddit.com/r/70sdesign/comments/4c05dl/70s_rowenta_toaster/ (though the orange and brown paintwork was different, and the end cheeks were brown).0 -

For that price I'd want it not only to pop up but also put the butter & jam on.

Yes, £200+ is a lot for a toaster. I wonder how many Chinese specials would have to be puchased, due to failure/complexity/poor quality/non repairable, in the 20+ years of Dualit life? The Dualit I have must be near to 25 years old and still working perfecly, and easily repairable. There's only two things to fail, elements, timer and maybe three, the 2/4 slice selector switch - "keep it simple".0
