Safety recall and car is un-driveable
Hi there, hopefully get some advice as feeling a bit let down!
I purchased a Peugeot 3008 in September 2021 from a well known dealer in Perth in the hope it would be a reliable family car for our 3 children. We live 30 miles away in Dundee.
However, that has not proved to be the case and it has had many trips to the garage for new springs, (un-driveable once), new sensor control units, it even went into limp mode on the main dual carriageway between dundee and Perth a month after purchase.
It has now been called in for an urgent saftey recall but the only peugeot garage is in Perth or double the distance in Kirkcaldy. The dundee one closed a few months back.
On starting the car yesterday, an Amber then Red warning light advising me to stop and not drive the vehicle has come on so I cannot use it. On calling the garage, they cannot see it for another month and have no means of recovery!
So I'm stuck with this car, paying for it, while waiting on them taking it in.
Maybe I'm being unreasonable? It just seems ridiculous that there isn't recovery when it's the manufacturers fault and there's not the capacity to see to an urgent safety recall!
Thanks anyone for reading all of this and to anyone with thoughts!
I should admit, the car was booked in for last Friday and I made the mistake in my diary of putting it in for today. So it's a big boo boo on my part. Do I have a leg to stand on?

Others may advise on your rights (if any). To help them, how old is the car? Any warranty? Service history?1 -
New or 2nd hand purchase?
Do you have breakdown cover?Life in the slow lane1 -

How old and what mileage was the car when you purchased it?
What mileage is the car now?
Depending upon the age of the car, the fault events you mention may be within the range of expectation for wear and tear.
- Suspension springs do need replacing after time.
- what was the sensor control unit that failed?
- what caused the limp mode event?
On the safety recall, it seems as though you are in part responsible for the delay in resolving this. That contributory factor won't have made the garage particularly keen to treat you as number one customer - they will have lost the time that was allocated to your car by your failure to turn up.
What has caused the warning lights to illuminate? Is there a fault code, or a message on the in car display?
Have you called your breakdown service? It seems odd, to me, to have a breakdown and call the garage first. The breakdown service may be able to fix the car, may be able to say what the fault is, and would have a recovery service if that is needed.1 -
Considering the 3008 has been around since 2007 the car could be 16 years old.
The reason breakdown cover exists is for situations such as this. Its down to the owner to get it to the dealer for any repairs, even recalls.1 -
Have you scanned the car with an OBD2 reader yet.
My 5008 throws a Nox sensor Cade and warns of engine damage / failure.
I clear the code twice a year on average.
Had it scanned at service as is under warranty,
No issues, all cars throw the odd code every now and then.
What is the recall for ?.

Unfortunately, a months wait for a main dealers workshop is pretty normal now, and few of them will have the facilities to collect and store it for that month. That's what breakdown cover is for.
How old is the car? Is it still under warranty? Because if not then you should find it much quicker to get an independent in Dundee to collect and repair it. If it HAS to go back to Peugeot in Perth, then you'd need to either get your breakdown cover to take it there, or pay for it to be transported. If you've got a local facebook community page, I'm sure you'll be able to find someone with a car trailer or a flat bed willing to do the run fairly cheaply.
The fault may be a manufacturers fault, which may be covered by a warranty, but they won't provide a courtesy car until it's been in and confirmed. The dealer may be able to give you a courtesy car in the interim.

I take my Peugeot to a local independent specialist I found on Google. In the Dundee area Pitairlie garage in Newbigging has a 4.9 star rating from Google reviews and seems to be worth trying.

Thank you everyone for your comments. It's good to hear any comments, to help me work out where I should be in relation to how I feel. It's easy to vent initially when slightly angry.
Yes, I do agree the car should've been there the week before. I think it's annoying as the car has been horribly unreliable. We bought it when it was 4 years old, and have had it almost 2 years. Its been off the road unexpectedly about 7 times including 4 times in the first 6 months. Last three times, were the other front spring sheared but drive able; then the engine oil pressure sensor and lastly petrol spraying over the catalytic converyor. My other car is a skoda, which is used for driving instruction and is only ever off the road for a service. I've had three of them, two were second hand and never had a broken spring or any other major issue. I guess I've been unlucky with the Pug!0 -
I should add I do have AA cover so will call them out to see what's what! Thanks again everyone, like I say, I do agree I should have had it in the week before and I know that. Just think the Pug is a pile of dung, most definitely will not buy another!0
