Amazon - lost package and asking me to wait over 14 days for refund/cancel.

I ordered something on Sunday night for Monday delivery, literally a few doors away from me the van broke down and had to get towed away and livechat claimed it would be taken back to depot and sent back out same day, this of course never happened, Tuesday not even out for delivery so I asked to get a replacement order or cancel and was told I had to wait until today, nothing yesterday and today they claim I have to wait 14 days from TODAY.

What can I do in this situation as I am not willing to have them keep my money for over 2 weeks due to their fault especially when the items are still in stock and advertised as next day delivery.

Not much, because options available to you will take longer than two weeks.

Order a second one and return the first if/when it arrives?

I thought that yes, but either way I would be waiting at least 14 days from now for a return/refund.

How did you pay? please be specific (as it matters).
There might be a chargeback route that gets the money back more quickly

Yes, but the 'second order' route would at least mean that you should have what you ordered tomorrow, if getting hold of the goods is still a priority.

I thought that chargebacks for goods not received could only be initiated after an unresolved waiting period (perhaps 14 days?) rather than immediately, or are you thinking of a different chargeback reason?

I've had money back from amex immediately then they Ask questions later.
I'm not saying it would stick, but the OP seems to need their money immediately.

Of course if it goes back to a credit card it may just reduce the balance so might not help.

If a card provider accepts a claim as valid then reimbursement (albeit provisional initially) should be very quick, but my point was that I believe that card companies aren't obliged to accept a claim for goods not received until a certain period after expected delivery date, i.e. you can't just claim the next day, although I haven't found anything definitive to substantiate this....

And I guess it might pee off Amazon who then decide they don't want the OP as a customer.

Hi sorry didn't get the update when logging in.

I paid by Visa credit card.

Updated as I haven't chased it up since but I ordered some things yesterday for delivery today, I checked at 9.30am and saw ti as "1 stop away" I rushed outside just in case.

Waited 15 minutes no one turned up, no knock at door or anything.

Came back in to see "delivery attempted"

I went straight to livechat and was promised they contacted the local depot and it would be back out same day and driver would phone me before arrival, 30 minutes later I get 2 emails 1st confirming this and 2nd 1 minute later from another person at the "depot" saying they attempted to phone me and no answer and it will be out tomorrow.

I went back to livechat and was told it is back out today don't worry.

Went back on livechat 10 minutes ago to check and they said theres an issue and it may be lost and I have to wait 14 days to get a refund.

Twice within a week and they are messing me around.
