MSE News: 2 million Shell energy and broadband customers affected as businesses are put up for sale

No one is suggesting that Shell is anything but a good supplier. For business reasons they seem to have made the decision to offload a loss making part of the Shell Group.[Deleted User] said:
I'm not with Shell but my in-laws are with litle interaction needed on my part for online account management. Meter readings have been lifted automatically on schedule since they moved to their current address. I'll be suggesting that they give it some thought as to what they want to do. I know if I was in their shoes I'd be inclined to move to a supplier of my choice and soon during the summer months.[Deleted User] said:prowla said:I'm sensing negativity here, but this is news and is relevant; both to the customers and the UK energy market in general.FWiW, if I was with Shell Energy and on a standard deal, I would probably switch. Taking over customers en masse can take time and become a little messy. Consumers don’t know who to approach if there is an issue, for example, with a meter.
By way of comparison, EDF is about to start moving its customer base to a new billing platform. It estimates that the process will take up to 18 months. Clearly, moving 2 million customers to a new supplier in a much faster time frame increases the risk of something going wrong in the account transfer process. This would be my concern if I was a Shell Energy customer.0 -
Just did a meter check and see that my in-laws have a SMETS1 meter. They are both old (and quite frail) to have to start reading the meters again should they decide to go dumb - whether if be to a supplier of their choice or stay to see what happens.[Deleted User] said:Clearly, moving 2 million customers to a new supplier in a much faster time frame increases the risk of something going wrong in the account transfer process. I would advise you to think twice about switching to Shell Broadband following my experience with them. I signed up in February using a great deal offer on this website. The deal worked out at about £20 per month and included Full Fibre, one month free and a free Amazon Voucher valued at £105. The actual switch was fine and after some trial and error I eventually managed to get my TV connected. However, the first month free was ignored for a few months but eventually it was honored. The Amazon Voucher still hasn't materialised, and Shell are now completely ignoring my e-mails. The deal was still available when I last checked with the Amazon Voucher now increased to £110 although I don't expect to get the increased value. Shell have an awful reputation for customer service....or lack of it....and that applies to their Energy and Broadband deals. I did a little research and discovered that Shell should pay a small commission to Broadband Genie to enable the Amazon Voucher to be paid to me and although I explained this to Shell they have continued to ignore my request. I would not recommend Shell to anyone based on my experience.kuepper said:I was just about to switch my broadband to them as they've offered me 6 months free broadband on 18 month contract at £17.99 pm, could that not be honoured if they're sold?0 -
Most SMETS1 meters have been enrolled onto the DCC network. You can check here:DerwentMailman said:

We are now entering the SMETS1 twilight phase. Ofgem has an ongoing consultation to agree a SMETS1 end date. By this date, the meters will be updated or replaced.1 -
Yes just checked earlier today and it would appear their SMETS1 has been enrolled as I get the same screen as perDolor said:

I've helped my sister to start the switch to Octopus better to go with a company you want to move to rather than be moved over to one you don't want to be with.luvchocolate said:I've started the switch from Shell to Octopus...the last company I would want would be BG1 -

I’m with Shell Energy. They brought me over from buying out Post Office Broadband, who brought me out from Fuel Broadband who brought me out from Primus. I wonder who will be my next provider! Through all those acquisition I’ve never had an issue or a disruption.0
