Morrisons - Doorstep Adjustments

Fixed amount of £5 on every order now, anyone a clue what this exactly means and do they refund it if no higher price substitutions?

On my last order its almost 10% on top of the order.

I completed my first online Morrisons order this weekend and noticed that doorstep adjustment on the order screen but it wasn't on the receipt in the end. It was a bit off-putting to see it there in the first place.

The one thing I need to know is - they processed a pending amount on my card soon after the order cut off time passed but when will they adjust it to match the receipt total now that delivery is complete?

Most supermarkets do the same, estimated total shows as pending and then the day of delivery it’s updated to the actual amount and is then taken from your credit card/bank. They can’t take it until delivery as any returns, changes in prices, changes in weights etc will then be processed.

I don’t use Morrisons anymore as I found them expensive and then they closed my account as they found is suspicious that I ordered cigarettes every week. I use Asda now as it’s cheaper, better quality and if you get subs you pay the original price even if the sub is higher priced but they also state that the funds have to be available 24 hours before delivery.

Thanks. It's been years since I've done grocery shopping online. Back then Tesco would just charge the order total only. Their min spend is an eye watering £50 now.

I did use Asda before Tesco but they were woeful, so many missing items/unsuitable substitutions it was a complete waste of time.

I went with Morrisons as their min spend is £25 which is much more manageable as I live on my own but it's only a one off as I was isolating because of covid. I found it strange that you can't choose bagless delivery with them, they're definitely behind the times in that regard. I did like the text beforehand confirming no missing items though.

The pending total they've processed is about £1.20 higher than my receipt total. The order was delivered last night but I can't see any adjustments on my Chase account. Unfortunately with Chase card payments they take the pending amount from your account balance still which isn't ideal.

I was going to call Morrisons customer service but the wait times are too long.

EDIT: The charge in my Chase account has now been adjusted to match the receipt total.

Sadly I am limited on options, I cant use companies that insist on delivering my food loose in big heavy crates.

Good news though that the doorstep fee just seems to be a holding fee in case of subs.

To be honest, I am amazed that Morrisons still deliver in bags. I’ve only ever had crate deliveries from them. May I ask why you are saying big heavy crates when you don’t have to lift them? My Asda driver puts the crates down and waits for me to empty them onto my trolley/bags as do all of the supermarkets, on saying that, Ocado still do bags

I use Waitrose and Tesco, and the drivers of both are happy to unload the crates onto a trolley for me. I don't have to lift anything. Would that be an option for you?

Could be area/driver specific ? Tesco stand back and wait until I’ve emptied and stacked their crates again, same with Asda and I had Waitrose yesterday and the guy put the crates down and stood back until I had emptied them into my trolley but he did move the crates as I emptied them though.

@sarah1972, maybe, Waitrose come(s) from Milngavie and Tesco from Port Glasgow. Of course it may be that a glance of me and my stick trying to open the door with a bad hand may make them realise if they leave it to me they'll be here forever! No, that's unfair - they are always helpful and often chat while they're unloading. Some offer to take the order into the kitchen but I have a nice little system now.

I'm much the same, I use Asda, Waitrose & Iceland. I add a note to delivery instructions about infirmity and will need help unloading etc and have found all drivers helpful, with some offering to carry though into kitchen

I will pull my back bagging the produce, its the supermarkets job to bag my food in my opinion.

Its very backwards to not use such a simple invention as a bag to deliver food.

Not sure why you surprised though, as plastic bag deliveries based on published evidence actually are only a tiny portion of overall plastic usage in supermarkets e.g. the BBC reported after Asda stopped using them on deliveries their overall bag usage was still over 90%, and most of plastic usage is on shrink wrapping pallets, food packaging etc.  It was effectively a cost saving measure under the disguise on helping the environment.  Note asda and co didnt replace with paper bags? Because of the ££.

I do hand my bags from previous week to the driver, so there is no environment damage, and the delivery is easier for me and the driver.

With Asda I did have an agreement with their executive office the drivers would bag at the door, but this stopped after a few weeks, and it felt wrong for me to push it as was awkward for the driver, so I simply changed to a supermarket with sane policies.

Interesting they dont bag for you, it could be they are still undecided on it as a national policy.
