PHEVs are a gateway drug to the full EV experience. It won't be long before you realise that you could easily cope without the engine and you'll soon go the whole hog. So get an EVSE right away and switch to Octopus Intelligent. With a small amount of thought you'll save money on your home electricity bill as well as driving for about 3p per mile.

My 3KW fan heater, if on for more than 30mins, can get the plug extremely warm so no way I'd trust an unattended EV charger on a 3 pin socket.
Our EVSE draws about 2.2-2.5kw, we have used it for the last 8 years, often 10 hours at a time and never worried that plug or wires have got more than vaguely warm - this is on a new circuit though (done within the last 10 years)
    I think....

As a previous fully electric driver I'd consider a home charger as being borderline essential, particularly now that the free/cheap public charging option has gone and very unlikely to be returning.
The ever expanding public charging network isn't as reliably operational as it could/should be and availability isn't guaranteed which meant my returning to diesel(boo/hiss/pearl clutching, etc, etc).
It's rather more complicated when using a hybrid though, where a charger would be desirable unless I could regularly use the electric only range I'd baulk at fitting a charger with the associated costs involved when it would buy a lot of petrol/diesel instead.
That was only based on practicality and convenience though with the debatable environmental credentials disregarded I decided against going hybrid as I view them as possibly being the worst of both worlds instead of the best of both worlds although that maybe a mistake on my part and hybrids clearly work for some, just not for me.
