EV charger cost vs 3 pin plug cost

Hi there
I have enquired about the costs of getting a charger installed and with the additional costs of requiring an isolator switch, and having to get the earthing investigated, I was just wondering for a hybrid car would it be worth it.if
if I am on the standard tariff, my hybrid car has a max of 30miles worth of charging which on 3 pin plug takes approx 5/6 hours. Would I see any cost benefits in moving to an EV charger?

No. That said, if you are going to use a 13amp socket on a frequent basis it is well worth having it checked by an electrician.
Also take a look at something like this:

I'm not sure about following a link to a site where the URL includes the phrase "go commando"!

Just to underline @[Deleted User] point about getting things checked by an electrician, if you have old wiring it's well worth getting it checked periodically. I just had my 25 year old wiring checked and the electrician found two faulty sockets that were replaced and a partially melted immersion heater cable that was also replaced. Cost me about £120 in total - not too much to spend every 25 years in order to reduce the possibility of a house fire.

My 3KW fan heater, if on for more than 30mins, can get the plug extremely warm so no way I'd trust an unattended EV charger on a 3 pin socket.0

I think that the word Go is used in the context that Ohme EVSEs work well with Octopus’ EV tariffs including Intelligent and Agile.QrizB said:I'm not sure about following a link to a site where the URL includes the phrase "go commando"!0 -
Probably not. It's probably telling you to 'go commando' in the sense of 'use the commando connector' - prominently featured on the photograph and description - combined with 'go' to link with vehicles and motion.[Deleted User] said:

There are various grants available, have you investigated those as they will cover 75% of the charger costs and the other sundry works might not cost much.0

Thanks. Looked at grant options, but I’m not a renter or a landlord, so this rules that outMattMattMattUK said:There are various grants available, have you investigated those as they will cover 75% of the charger costs and the other sundry works might not cost much.0 -

That is ok for a PHEV but not enough for an EV.
We had to pay our electricians just over £300 but that was to install a time delay RCD and upgrade the wiring as we were changing from 60amp to 100amp. The bulk of their cost was work in that respect.
EDF upgraded the meter tails and installed the isolator switch at no cost.
UKPN did the amp, some external wiring and external earth at no cost.
Broadly speaking, you need your electricity to be cheaper than about 25p per kWH to beat petrol/diesel (on fuel basis only). (price will move around depending on cost of those). In our case, we charge overnight when its 8p. So, its an absolute no brainer.
However, you would be hard pushed to find a public charger where it is cost effective to use at this time. So, you are looking at cost as a reason, then you really need a home charger and some off peak cheap pricing or solar.
