So am I correct in thinking that if I fly from Man to Dub then Dub to IAD via Aer Lingus then we will do customs clearance in Dublin and land as a domestic flight in the USA?
What is the process on the way back - we will be returning the same route?
Where do we do clearance for entry back in the UK? In Dublin or Manchester?

1. Yes - clearance at DUB on the outbound.
2. You clear US immigration in IAD but this is nothing more than the airline recording your departure.

Not quite 'domestic' as the Republic of Ireland is of course a separate and independent country to Great Britain & Northern Ireland. Ireland and the UK have an arrangement under the Common Travel Area. As such there is no separate immigration control at MAN on the DUB-MAN leg of your journey. Police (very rarely in my experience) man the desk at UK entry points from ROI.
