Some months ago the boiler broke down & whilst we huddled under blankets awaiting a repair, we bought fan heaters. In the last 48 hours Youngest pointed out to me that mine, still in box was not being put to use - it has a "just waft air around" setting & he'd been keeping cool with his the previous 48 houris. Do, please, check any fan heaters you may have to see if they can help you stay cool as well as cosy as needed?

I second what @New_in_the_fens said, @DigForVictory . The “hump full of water” is a myth.

Having ridden camels in Australia - and asking loads of questions because I was a horse mad teenager at the time - their saddles are fitted on the same principles as horse ones, in as much as each camel is sized and then fitted with a saddle of suitable proportions so that the frame doesn’t dig in. (Does that make sense?)

Anyone heard of Tilly Rose? Author of memoir "Be Patient" amongst other things & she has a list of her 10 Must Have in hospital things:

Towels
A pillow
Earplugs or headphones
Eye masks
Essential oil
Pyjamas (shorts, t-shirt, some leggings, loungewear and a jumper)
List of medications and medical history
Entertainment
Baby wipes &
Photographs.

My hospital bag needs a massive overhaul if I am to play by these rules. I still do not know whether the generously-built should wear a bra at all times (unless I know I am going to get help, I’d guess yes?) and I had better head off to the charity shops in search of shorts & whatever ‘loungewear’ is… (And may I say Google's AI Summary Has Not Helped At All. A pair of flannel bags, Himself's old blazer & a collarless shirt may be my gesture toward this "you're really going to answer the door in That" style?!)

Good morning preppers, I've been MIA for a very long time due to extreme life, but coming back now through necessity, and also missing the lovely people and chats on the Old Style board!

Read back a few pages, but not enough time for more, so will start where I am now. Long & boring story for another day, but suffice to say I have to tighten my belt massively and get back to prepping and all OS ways right now.

Got a lot to do, so off to find a new notebook and jot down some initial thoughts and plans of where to start as life has become rather pear shaped!! :)

I would also add toothbrush and paste, soap and a flannel/facecloth (I still remember the bedbath I was given after my first c-section - I felt so clean afterwards), phone and charger. While I was undergoing chemo I had a bag packed and ready for months in case of emergency admission.

As mine (currently) has pyjamas, dressing gown so I can be decent front & back, retired hillboots so I don't slip on hospital floors, soap, flannel, hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste, kindle, powerbank, & a posy of cables. It's designed anticipating an emergency admission where I expect family to grab further kit as needed (and that would be flexible depending on what had happened - a head injury & I might need the other glasses, surgery & I might require covering that I can take shears to & Oh my, it would be chosen by the offspring… (I'd better set up a grab bag of big Ts & baggy trous & add a fleece, or they might bring clothing I care about!).
I really must get those powers of attorney signed…

@DigForVictory , I would say the big Tees, baggy trousers and a fleece count as lounge wear. Something you feel comfortable in, could answer the door in and which washes easily.

Good lists - I'm not sure essential oils would be on mine, but a nice hand cream and some chocolate might be welcome.

May I also suggest a coin purse with £10/20 of mixed coinage inside for grab/emergency bags? Thinking of vending machines.
