Nice to see this thread active again...I've got an old fashioned sideboard in my hallway...I've been filling with tins of various things....not only in case war in Europe worsens and supply lines disrupted...but hopefully in a couple of years...may have to take my DB pension...still work in care increasingly stressful being used by young managers...supporting clients in the community also stressful...saving up in the meantime...once I retire hope to do 10...20 hours a week but cant rely on that...so much disrespect in the workplace....hope you're all ok8

Good to see you @daz378. Pleased you're managing to store some tins away. Your line of work is so hard and physical, not to mention the stress with managers who don't understand the day to day problems, it's no wonder people want to retire as soon as they can. Look after yourself.2025 Fashion on the ration

My pantry shelves are in a dreadful mess so that’s another job on the “to do” list. The dry goods section hasn’t worked as well as I had hoped using the glass jars so I am going back to leaving things in packets, seems they take up so much less space and are much easier to stack - obvious when you think in terms of practical not pretty. So I will be using those jar supplies and then washing jars to sell - I have quite a few now.
aThe local pantry has been closed for three weeks so I haven’t had anything from there. As well as stocking up on my kitty cats foods and treats I have also managed to collect a huge box of cat foods, treats, toys, blankets and a bed for our local Cats protection where we got our boy from. I feel guilty just stocking up for us.Saving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

Thanks to a prepping group on FB I have managed to fall down a black hole of what wound happen if our electrics were every in a grid down situation......not just a powercut but if the network got hacked or completely cut off for the whole of the UK.
One show I had recommended that started it was a docu - drama called Blackout - you can find on Channel 4 if you look for it, and the other is called Cobra.
Weirdly over all the prepping things - this actually seems like quite a plausible event but it has made me have a relook at my preps!Time to find me again7 -

Yes, I have a gas hob too. Just considering losing both gas and electric. A Kelly kettle sounds good.Never, ever give up........1

I have a small camping gas stove ..but as I live in a tower block. Would only use in an emergency and be very careful got a powerstation...good for a couple of mobiles charging for a few hours...got a couple wind up radios and solar chargers.. had a couple of power cuts and they came in handy...I'm buying few extra tins here and there. .especially good stock of coffee...just uncertain times3

We’ve invested in a wind up radio as well. Times are very uncertain and it’s scary to think of what might happen. Best to have and never need than the alternative.Saving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

We have a small camping stove which uses the gas cannisters, and also have a metal incinerator bin in the garden that we can use to heat and probably put a grill over the top to cook on. I do think I need to invest in a small kelly kettle or something similar though that would be more discreet and use another alternative fuel source. We have woodland nearby so I wouldnt be short of twigs, sticks and kindling plus I have a greenhouse and shed I could collect a small amount in case and keep in there to dry etc.
I also was clearing out my sons room the other day and found a small bear grylls kit that I think we brought him when he was in scouts which contains a foil emergency blanket and another fire starter, as well as a small fishing kit with weights/hooks and wire, a small cutting chain, a sewing kit and some para cord so I will pop that in an emergency bag. I do think I might start looking at making a sort of emergency van bag especially for winter since my husband travels quite a bit. Both our vans have the means to make a bed in (van is a day van so has a bed and a roof tent and our other van the seats fold into a bed) so both can be stayed in comfortably but I think I might make a point if he is going away in bad weather to have the camping stove and equipment, a sleeping bag and a small bag with him with things like food, water, cash, powerpack etc.
Time to find me again9
