My grandson Ben dug a row of spuds up from my garden yesterday, and he was so chuffed as he had never grown anything before. He got an almost full Tesco carrier bag, which he took home for my DD and there was another half bag that I gave to my next door neighbour as she watered them for me when I was on holiday. There is still another row of spuds to dig up but I said to wait until his Mum had used all of the first lot up then he can dig the rest up. he's going to put some more in at the end of August for the winter crop
he's really got the growing bug, he is a school teacher in inner London so coming down to Kent he loves being able to get out in the fresh air

On the mend and repair comments re youth.
My partners son, 14. Refused to let me mend the end of his shoelace with some tape. "Cos it would look chav, and stupid."
He would rather moan that he can't wear his bright white £150 shoes...* he did pay for them with his own savings *today's mood is brought to you by coffee, lack of sleep and idiots.

Or stick them back in the box so they stay bright white, and wait til that awful flappy-open-laceless trend comes back round.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7

This afternoon, I did a stocktake of my freezers, so I now know what really needs using up, from the bottom of the small chest freezer in the garage and what I need to stock up on. I could do with some more vegetables, and I need to use up some of the bready things like the mini hot cross buns!😊 There may be some bread and butter puddings on the go next week!2025 Fashion on the ration

As far as food goes, I'm starting to use carbs I've got in storage - rice and polenta, mainly - I'm bad at just falling back on quick-and-easy pasta.
The garden is still too rampant this year, partly because I let the local foxes have the run of it, and partly because its very unpleasant to be out there, a very noisy local dog makes it a misery (because his life is a misery, poor dog).2023: the year I get to buy a car8
