E-voucher offered in, error

I was offered a £100 e-Voucher by John Lewis via a sales confirmation email with a purchase of a TV, but they now say it was offered in error and won't honour it as the TV purchase did not warrant the e-voucher. Where do I stand on this, do they have to honour it

Just to clarify, was it clear before you bought the TV that all purchasers of that TV would get a £100 voucher, or did the voucher offer only appear with the sales confirmation email after you had made the purchase?

I assume this was an online purchase?
Could you share some dates with us please - when did you buy the TV and when did they say they had made a mistake?

The offer of the voucher appeared with the email confirmation of the sale. The error came to light when I queried how to claim the voucher. They said my purchase did not warrant an e Voucher and the e Voucher offer was put on in error. I received the sales confirmation email on the 27 May 2023 and have been sending and receiving emails back and forwards since.

It's now clear that the voucher formed no part of the sales contract.
It was a trivial mistake by a clerk which they corrected as soon as it was noticed.
There was no loss to you.

True no loss to me, but it got my hopes up that I was going to get a £100 voucher. Surely at least I should be offered a token gesture of some sorts for the error they made.

The sales confirmation doesn't form a contract with JL, dispatch of the goods does.

If JL withdraw the voucher before dispatch (which seems likely given the dates) then they are simply amending their offer and nothing is due, on the other hand if dispatch occurred I can't see why it doesn't form part of the contract?

I know there was an offer of a £100 e gift card on selected electricals items. All qualifying items had the £100 e-gift offer on their product pages and you would have seen this before making your purchase.

I assume there was no mention of this during the checkout process and it just appeared in the confirmation email? If so, unfortunately it’s an error and as it doesn’t form part of the contract, you wouldn’t be entitled to it. And they wouldn’t offer goodwill for this.

Yeah delivery tomorrow. I'm scuppered. But I guess no loss as you state. A token gesture from JL would be nice even if it were only £10.
