UK Parking Patrol Office - PCN unclear signage

Hi all, I recently got a PCN at a private car park on Granby Row, Manchester. My dad had helped me park my car and thought the  car park was part of the park and display car park. So the PCN was issued for not displaying a permit. Only once the PCN was given did we realise that it is a separate car park. Unfortunately my dad parked right in front of a sign (same colour yellow but smaller) stating it is a private car park and only permit holders are allowed to park. However, it is very difficult to tell that it is a separate car park as there is no diving barrier between the two and no sign to say where one car park ends and the other begins.

I did speak to a solicitor on Justanswer.com and he advised me to pay the charge saying the signage is unclear is highly subjective.

Not sure what to do....

We've seen that place before.  Horrible lack of clear signage and delineation between areas.

Just ignore UKPPO and daft debt demands for £170, and come back if you get s court claim or solicitor's LBC (see 2nd and 4th posts of the NEWBIES thread).  There's no risk and certainly don't pay it!

Tell UKPPO if you move house though; you must never leave a PPC with a possible old address to send a claim form to, years down the line, because they can and do cause CCJs that way.  Claims unseen are risky but all is OK as long as you are seeing all the laughable letters.

UKPPO are not currently litigious so we'd mainly signpost you to post4 of the NEWBIES thread and please don't tell us about the usual dross £170 threatograms!

    DO COME BACK IN JULY/AUGUST!

We need you to do the Government's upcoming final PUBLIC CONSULTATION on the level of parking charges.

You owe it to yourself. We'll be all over it here!

PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thanks for getting back to me Coupon-mad.
Have read some of the defence templates but struggling to get my head round all the legal stuff.
The solicitor I spoke to, told me not to bother as saying the signs are "not clear" is highly subjective and will be determined by the judge if the case is heard in court.

Yep (true about the signs being subjective) but there's no risk, and we see wins 99% of the time.

Not only do we ONLY specialise in private parking cases, but we know that UKPPO don't sue people.

The solicitor doesn't have our niche knowledge.

Surely that is the whole point of why this happened the dodgy PPC needs to replace all those signs and positioning to make it all crystal clear, but or course that is not what they want is it.

Are there any issues with this ticket? They haven't included a post code and the location code means nothing to me!

Nope, just standard stuff. Presumably you know where the car was when that was placed on the windscreen anyway?

I read the newbies thread and decided to reach out to the landowner for help. Unfortunately, they declined and told me to sort it out with UKPPO.

Fine...no worries!  Like I said you can safely ignore them or if you prefer, go through the farce of appeal.

You already know how and when to appeal a windscreen PCN because it's a tactic explained in the NEWBIES thread pretty thoroughly.

And here's what people do with the Debt Recovery daft threatograms in a UKPPO case:

Really no worries whatever you do, as long as you DON'T PAY!

Thanks for your speedy replies Coupon-mad.

I will not be waiting my time with the IAS esp after all the negative feedback on here.

BTW, is there a reason why UKPPO don't tend to sue people?

Most PPCs do not sue.  Nothing unusual, they clearly make sufficient money by fooling enough people all of the time.
