Compassionate passport - what are my chances

Had a complete nightmare today, lost my passport at Gatwick airport. I was due to fly with my partner who is 31 weeks pregnant and my toddler son. We made the decision that she would go with him and I would stay at the airport and hope the passport turned up, jumping on a later flight. However it did not turn up.
Given she is out there on her own, with a toddler and being pregnant, I applied for a compassionate passport. However, I have no idea what sort of chance I'll have of it being granted. Does anyone have any experience with this process?

I once lost my passport at Heathrow. The police officer I saw assured me that I would get a replacement passport very quickly and outlined the procedure to me. However, soon after that my passport did turn up so I was able to travel the following day.
Sorry about your distressing experience, and hope that things move towards a speedy resolution. Where is "out there"? Presumably not anywhere really hairy like Sudan since you were flying from Gatwick.0 -
Mallorca. We were heading out to visit an elderly relative.0

Yeah I saw that. Those reasons are examples so I'm hoping that there is flexibility. I realised that it is entirely possible someone swiped my passport, I have no proof of this but also can't explain how it was there one minute, gone the next. Stolen passports appear to be considered an reason for emergency travel documents so maybe that'll be enough. Though I doubt it. I think my main hope is a combo of pregnant partner and elderly relative.0

It wasn't a holiday, it was to see an elderly relative.0

You could try getting your application upgraded to Premium Service where you get your passport at the appointment.
However, it not always easy to get an appointment. They are released throughout the day so you need to keep checking.

She is Ill, but not critically and I only have a few emails from my mum about my relative saying she might not have long left. That's why we were going out as there isn't long until the due date of number two child and I can't really fly out later than this because birth number one was very challenging and I needed to be on hand for a lot of year one for our first child.0

Its very unlikely you will get one as the emergency travels docs are for just that emergencies which this really isnt as your partner could travel home thus you would not need an emergency travel doc.
As others have said if your family member was very ill this would be taken into consideration.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0
