E-visa for India

Hi there and many thanks for reading.

Just booked an escorted tour to India for September through Mercury Holidays and looking to sort the visas out in the next week.

Has anyone done this recently and how was it?  We arrive and depart in Delhi and will be there for a fortnight.  Mercury have emailed through a company they deal with for the visas but looking online, it seems quite straight forward.  I don’t want to be paying someone to do something that I can do myself if I can help it but I do want to get it right. 😀

Any help would be wonderful and thanks again.

Seconded. I visited in April and got my visa in late March. There are some glitches so I suggest you read what Trip Advisor says so you know what to expect. In particular the payment gateway sometimes fails, so leave plenty of time so that if necessary you can try another day until finally it works.

And a tip: when you are coming back you have to show your air ticket in order to enter the airport, so print something off or ensure your 'phone is charged and that you have something on it to show them. (There is no wi-fi in the airport.)

I last went to India in 2017 and went through the e-visa route. I have a memory that the website was fairly rudimentary and I had a problem uploading a picture but other than that it was fine. Certainly far easier than going the physical visa route which I’ve gone through a number of times.

If this is your first time to India you’ll probably find Delhi a bit overwhelming at first but it’s a wonderful vibrant country.

Do you need to do e-visas now?

I went in 2016 and again in 2017 and used the e-visas.  I found going online around 7am a good time.  Do take a pen with you as I then had to complete a landing card once inside the terminal in Delhi.  Oh and be prepared, sharpen your elbows and try to get off the plane asap to get to the gates.

    Have a fabulous time.

    Yes you do.

I visited in April, and things were as you describe. The only difference now is that you can use the same e-visa to visit India again during the period of its validity.

Many thanks for all the replies.  I have another quick question, Mercury say that the visas can be done 120 days from departure but looking at the link above, that seems to be for longer stay visas.  Surely, I’d just need the 30 day visa which states applying within 30 days of arrival?

My elbows will be sharpened ready to go.lol

    thanks again everyone.
