Back for 2023: What's the best £1 you've ever spent?

In the early 2000s I bagged a black dress coat for £1 which I still use as my funeral coat. I got a pair of lined Voile curtains for £1 and 10 years ago got a 4 piece towel bale for 90p all at B&M. The towels weren't the best quality but I'm still using what's left of them as cleaning rags.

In 1989 my chemistry teacher told me not to waste £10 to apply to Oxford, as it’s “not for people like you.”
I ignored her, was accepted, and left with a 2:1 in physics.
The return on that has been immense.. Physics is not the easiest subject. I did a Physics and Astronomy degree at the University of London, it was hard.
The highlight was arriving at the Astronomy lecture one afternoon to be told we were having a guest lecturer. Who should walk in but the late great Patrick Moore. He lectured on one of his favourite subjects, Mars. As this was our last lecture of the day most of us stayed behind to talk to him. He was lovely and stayed with us for ages. It made our day, for me it was the best day out of the 3 years

Sony portable FM radio for 99p from eBay. It's my constant companion when working in my greenhouse on the allotment.2

About 10 years ago I went with a small group of colleagues for a day trip to Belfast. Flying from Bristol airport, Ryanair had a special ticket offer of 2p per person - yes two pence sterling, return! There was a credit card charge, so we paid for the tickets on debit card to avoid it. AND we had a fabulous day in Belfast!
