Think I usually tip around £20pp. Can't remember now. Wouldn't tip as much as £150 total.
2024 wins: *must start comping again!*
  • Thanks everyone.  I think I shall tip this time but probably 20 pounds each.

Nope, you get quoted for a service that you pay for and that's it. I don't get tipped on my job for doing the basics. If we tip a removal man £50 a day he will end up with about £12k cash a year in hand, this only feeds the society that doesn't contribute to the system.

We moved twice during the Dec 2020 & Feb 2021 lockdowns. We didn’t tip when they packed up our house to go into storage for indefinite period, because despite very clearly labelled shelves saying ‘Do NOT pack’ they packed! It was instructions & chemicals for the swimming pool & fish pond so my husband made them open about 4 boxes until they unpacked it again. They also packed a damp towel & tea towel, which remained packed for several weeks.
We did however tip them £20 each I think, when they unloaded in our new place, despite some minor damage. They were so quick & efficient.
I wouldn’t tip as a matter of course though.

I didn't tip our removal men 17 years ago when we moved house.  They made it very clear from the start of the day that they were in a hurry and needed to get back to the home town by the afternoon to clear up the market stalls.  It felt like being burgled, especially when they started throwing stuff to each other down the stairs.  I carried an 8-month old baby on my hip for eight hours and no-one gave me a tip...

You will have to wait until your child can earn money or can decide if they want to tip you for your hip carrying.

You may think you are the best hip carrier in the world but in their eyes you are just average and don't deserve a tip?

For my last 2 moves i used local family firms with 5* reviews.  They were more expensive but worth every penny.  I had part packing, kitchen, china, glass etc.  the last one brought big padded covers for the tv, sofa and armchairs.  Both the moves went like clockwork and there were no problems.  I provided drinks and biscuits/cake for the 2nd one but they didn’t need them.  :D.  I did tip them both but don’t remember how much

when my ex and I moved from Northants to Devon many years ago we had 2 old leather settees which we weren’t taking.  One of the removal men asked if he could have them instead of a tip.

Really good removal men are worth their weight in gold and I have always believed that tipping should be for an above average service.

afternote.  In 19  moves in my 70 years I’ve never seen a “removal woman”.  Are they unusual or find that lifting heavy furniture is more difficult?
