One passenger upgraded to Club World, the other hasn't - options?

My partner & myself booked a BA flight Heathrow to Denver, standard economy class. We got notification a few months later that the aircraft changed so they changed our seats which were no longer together. We immediately called to resolve (my partner is an anxious traveller) and managed to get seated together again.
Our flight is tomorrow, we went to check in this evening, only to find that we had been allocated different seats on check-in! Then, I realised that I appeared to now be travelling Club World class but my partner was still on World Traveller, so there was no way we could pick seats together!
We were checking in too late to call customer services this evening (didn't see the rush for check-in as, as far as we were concerned, we already had our seats allocated!) so can anyone advise as to what our options might be, or what I might expect when I call them in the morning trying to find a suitable resolution??
Thanks!

Ask the person on either side of your partner if they want a free upgrade to Club World so you can sit with him?1

So the person in economy sits down, and politely asks his/her next-door neighbour if they mind exchanging seats. Probably one neighbour will refuse, explaining why they chose and paid for that particular seat. When they find out they have just refused a free upgrade... well, someone should photograph their face!0

I would try to arrange the move with staff at the gate before boarding starts, or onboard with cabin crew. Less disruption with the cabin move perhaps. Flight may have already departed by now.
