I've relatively recently boxed in my pipes with battens and plasterboard.

I'd actually posted about it here.

Long story short, I tried using MultiFinish on this, and for one reason or another, it wouldn't bond well. But, that's kind of by the by.

As the width of the plasterboard is so small (about 12cm or so, with the smaller section being 4cm or less), my plan was to add metal beading down the external corner and just try my luck at plastering the whole thing, as thought there wasn't enough space to feather in (if I were to tape and joint, cover screw holes, etc).

A: Is MultiFinish right for this job? If it is, do you know why it isn't adhering? Perhaps I'd have been better off PVAing prior?
B: Is it worth plastering the whole thing, or is there sufficient space to feather in?

Sorry, not done much in the way of plastering, other than filling the odd chased out wall!  :)

Try using Knauf fill and finish, which can be used to skim the boards. You can also use a sponge finish as an alternative to a light sand.

Second recommendation for Knauf Fill & Finish. And to expand on stuart45's sponge finish - Once the Fill & Finish has dried, go over it with a damp (wet) sponge float. The water in the sponge will soften up the F&F and the sponge will flatten off the humps and deposit the F&F in the hollows. Don't use too much water though. You don't want a soaking wet wall.
