The pole provided by open reach to deliver service is at capacity and we are currently with bt. I'd like to change supplier but it is not possible to string up a new cable to the pole and bt have no plans to remove the cable currently connected to the premises. Virgin have an access panel at the kerbside but we have a concrete driveway/frontage. Our needs are for good fast broadband only (we don't have iptv or use the currently installed landline). bt have offered the £29.99 deal for fibre 100 and that's where we started - but the price has now nearly doubled over the 2 year period.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

The cable from the pole is owned by Openreach, your service is with BT. You can change to another service provider which uses Openreach infrastructure, it wont need a new cable.

I tried that (City Fibre). According to O/R the pole needs replacing and this won't be done for several months. No new cables can be strung. Who owns the cable from the pole to the premises?

Should be no problem for Virgin to "mole" under driveway.

City Fibre is another network supplier, they don't use Openreach infrastructure nor do they themselves provide broadband direct to retail or business. They sell wholesale services to suppliers (such as Vodafone & TalkTalk) who then supply retail/business demand (same as Openreach do).

I am going to say that Openreach own the cable from their pole to your building.
Do you know what speed the existing cable is capable of supporting or if it is FTTC or fTTP? Pointless to pay for more than the line can support.

Have you put your address into one of the many sites that offer searches to find out what other providers are available?
