Can I use a second Chase account for a bank switch?

  • I recall reading on another thread somewhere that if you open multiple Chase accounts you can switch them as long as you keep at least one of them open, otherwise they will do as @Leonruss describes. Not something I've tried myself as I don't have a Chase account, but probably good to keep in mind for future.

I've successfully switched a secondary account from my Chase app for a switch offer and it did not shut my main account. Chase sent me a message when they got notified saying <secondary account name> is being transferred, we're sorry to see you go etc and then another message when it was moved. You can also see a count down of days till it moves on the account in the app too, along with a notice saying where it's being transferred to. Honestly it's the most information I've seen from a bank about an outgoing switch.

With regards to the info you put in, I just put in the account number and sort code. Just said I didn't have a debit card for the account.

I’ve just used a second unused Chase account for the current Lloyds switch offer and I input last 5 digits of debit card as requested… will give you an update when I have one.
    Best Regards,

  • Hi

I've just set up a second Chase account as a future burner. It asked me if I wanted to use the account for card payments. I assumed this to mean in place of my first account so I said no. Have I assumed correctly?

    Cheers
  • I've used three additional Chase accounts for switches, all of them worked fine and my main Chase is still active and unaffected.

Yes.  Definitely safest that way - thats what I did for the 2 secondary accounts I set up and subsequently switched (ticking No Debit Card on the Switch application).

That way no risk of losing the debit card, although I seem to recall someone on another thread said they input the debit card details when switching their 2nd account and it was still available on the main account after the switch had happened.

There is a risk the switching will not go smoothly and you miss the window for getting switching incentive.

Do you mean if you don't include the debit card?

    Cheers

Yes - if you have an active debit card and you don't provide the card details, this can cause sometimes issues during the switching process.
  • Cheers for that much appreciated.
