Is it right that I should pay more for adsl (non fibre) when I don't have the option of having fibre

Hi
I live in a rural area in Aberdeenshire.
I recently came to the end of a fixed deal with plusnet, paying £17/month for adsl broadband and evening and weekend calls
This included a £2 reduction due to slow line speed
My renewal was last week so I did the ring-round
I was expecting for the cost to have gone up, but the best I could do was £27 with a plus net renewal
BT offered £29/ month plus a £29 connection fee, despite BT offering fibre for £26 with no connection fee
I know it is my choice to live out of town and that I should expect a patchy service
This I understand and accept
What I do not understand is why I should pay more for an inferior service....surely if fibre has not got to me yet I should just be offered their cheapest option
...ps I did offer to sign up to fibre and accept the slow speed of adsl but was told this was not possible
Has anyone discovered a work-a-round...??

If you can't get Fibre you can't get fibre.  Simple as.
There are many rural areas that can get fibre, but its a case of supply and demand - if there is no demand for fibre in an area it goes to the back of the queue and it gets upgraded in due course by Openreach at some unspecified point in the future.

If all you can get is ADSL then all you can get is ADSL.
Check mobile network coverage to see what you can do there.
