a year ago I had a guy come round for ONS asking if I would be willing to undertake a survey. He showed ID and I answered the survey, all he wanted from me was an email address to send the voucher. As promised I received a £5 amazon gift voucher code by email and it was all legit. The email asked if I would do more in the future so I said yes. I get one about every 2-3 months and I always get the voucher the same or next day.
Morally I don't think you should take the money for doing nothing, but I suspect the code will have to be activated anyway0 -
If you like, but that's a strange approach when your primary concern is that it might not be genuine and that you don't want to be involved with any survey. From what you've described, it's not as simple as just taking the cash. You said it was redeemable at a PO, which presumably will involve you having over a load of personal information to a third party you're worried about and don't want to be involved with.Krakkkers said:But take the cash
This is not really any different from a phishing email. Do you respond to those when they offer £10 as well?0 -
The voucher is redeemable for £10 cash from any postoffice WITHOUT ID.0

I still think it's an odd response, given your concerns, but you seem intent on taking the cash, so just go for it.0

I think if the offer doesn't make it clear that it's conditional on taking part in the survey then I'd take the cash.
I think it's wrong in principle that ONS should offer "inducements" to people to participate in surveys. I'd have thought it would introduce bias into the sample.1 -
Well the Post office lady was as puzzled by it as me but she gave me £10.0
