Can anyone supply a template letter for the "prove it letter" mentioned above??
Would make it really easy for us all to add in our own details and send it off? Thanks in advance  :)
There's a template for the prove it letter in a sticky post over on the "Debt-Free Wannabe" forum:

Do not ever telephone people like these (debt collectors). Talk is cheap, and they can spin all sorts of tales and threats. Keep all communication in writing - Preferably by post (it costs them extra) so that you have a paper trail and clear evidence of maleficence should it ever get to court.

  • After Heggers post above, re contacting FRB I have found the attached on their website.
This is who to contact there:
The administrators can be contacted at togethercustomers@frpadvisory.com. The administrators do not have access to customer account information and will be unable to assist you with any bill, credit balance or account query.
  • I’ve received an email out the blue from a debt collection agency called Barratt Smith & Brown, who are legit as I googled the company.
They are requesting money from an old Together Energy account. But I transferred to Shell in April 2021.
Have a feeling this may be a scam, as reviews of the company are bad.
I recall having an issue with Together Energy, but I’m certain it was settled, but it was that long ago I have no recall of figures, letters etc
    Any help appreciated
Send them a prove it letter.
    Has this worked for anyone?

I've just had the same email for a house I left 2 years ago. It's so strange, I thought it was a joke as I recall calling all utilities before I moved and then again when the house was sold 5 months later. It had sat empty, aside from viewings.

    Hi all,

I too had an account with Together Energy in 2020. Only for a month or two though, as I tried out Look After My Bills (LAMB). On a side note, avoid them if they're still operating.

Following this thread I sent the "prove it" letter by post, second class recorded, on Saturday 27th May.
I got an email reply on Wednesday 31st May with the following:

    Good Morning,

    Thankyou for your letter,

Just to inform you this debt is not FCA Regulated.
I have requested more information on the account in question.
As soon as I get this, I will get this over to you.

    Kind Regards,

Just to put my thoughts on this BS&B have specialised in acquiring energy related consumer debts and 'buy up' at a fraction of 'face value' from the administrators all the debtor accounts of failed energy companies.  At that point they are the legal owners of these debts but they continue to correspond as though they are a 3rd party debt collection agency working on behalf of the administrators, also applying invalid 'penalty charges' to frighten folk into settlement.

What checks they do on the validity these debts one can only guess at, given that certain failed energy companies had all sorts of issues with their billing / accounts.

They obviously work on principle of bullying their 'acquired clients' and if enough folk just pay up they are quids in.

So agree with everything above in terms of sending a 'prove it' letter by snail mail and not providing any other contact details for them to continue their harassment.

  • We also had a letter in the post. never been a customer of Shell Energy ....!

I had an email saying I owe £1600.
I rang them and a guy on the phone said they would email a bill after I asked them to prove it.
I also emailed them asking them for proof of debt?
over a month now and not heard a thing. What do I do?
when I left I didn’t receive anything final, all the proof I have is my direct debits each month.
