  • Babysteps! As others have said, there is no timeframe, so just do whatever you're comfortable with.

And don't compare yourself to anyone else re: recovery! There are no hard and fast rules, everyone works at a different pace.

Very pleased to hear you have got everything sorted with your creditors.

You might want to read the Old Style MoneySaving  thread "5 OS pleasures in your day"?

And think about diarising your own pleasures each day, a cuppa in the garden with the dogs counts, as does a good sleep.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • Hello all, has anyone had debt written off for mental health ? I have 3 enforcement agencies after me and I’m very anxious and scared. I’m unable to leave my house sometimes in fear. Depression is not helping.
My debts are £3900 split between 3 companies.
They are rejecting payment plans and do not want to work with me.

If anyone has ever had debt written off please help me here I’m on antidepressants and I’m very anxious due to all this.

    Thank you! X
  • I posted a while ago asking if debt could be written off because of severe mental health, I was ready to take my own life due to debt.
I had help from debt advisor who took my case and my psychiatrist sent in the form and letters.
I had huge debts with 8 companies.
5 have agreed to write off my debt and I have 3 to hear from.
My mental health is still unstable but this is taking off the pressure.
Thank you for help and support I got here and for not judging me.
How did you manage to resolve this ? The enforcement agents won’t leave me alone I have really bad anxiety and depression.
Please tell me how you done it. I’m desperate for any help I can get x

    thank you so much !x

  • I am pleased for you that you have had help. I am unable to start a post but I am in a similar position. I have been ill for 3 years. I have been under the Home Treatment team twice in the last year and have a Care Coordinator and am under a psychiatrist. I have pain issues and also suffer from anxiety, depression, Cptsd , asthma. I left my husband in June 2021 and live in studio flat on my own. For various reasons the marital home hasn’t been sold. I have been under immense pressure not to sell from my husband and adult children. Universal said I wasn’t to anything anymore in May and are saying they have overpaid me and want everything back since I separated. This amounts to £21,000 plus around £2,000 council tax . I owe £9,000 on Credit Cards and owe family £33,000 jointly with my husband. I have had to give notice and will have nowhere to live in two weeks. I will have to return home and professional advice is I will get severely ill if I return home, which may lead to being sectioned or worse. There is more debt in my husbands name. I am 52 and have worked all my life before this and I’m entitled to nothing. Just PIP. I can make posts yet so am writing this here in the hope that someone will see it,
  • Ps the debt was something my wider family feel I was pressured into and I’m being abused. I’m so ill I don’t believe them and paranoia makes me believe this has all been done to me on purpose to punish me as I believe everyone hates me.
  • I’ve just completed the DMHEF how long did it take for your creditor to write back? Regards
