    Terrified......

Your shame and guilt are real but in the great scheme of things, getting those debts written off is the right thing to do.

If it means that your mental health improves a little, it's cost effective.

If it means the creditors have more time to engage with people who have the means to pay their debt, or even better to manage the applications they are getting more effectively and to engage promptly with those who are beginning to struggle, it's cost effective.

One day you may be able to pay forward by helping someone else manage their debt and their shame and guilt. You'll throw the same life belt that you've been able to grab.

That'll worth be worth much more.
Thank you so much for this if I am able to I genuinely will

This is brilliant. You may not feel in a good place but you've done really well to sort this out.
Thank you, I'm still struggling with the shame and guilt about not paying them, I've always paid what i owe but this simply wasn't possible
I`m sure, if the roles were reversed, they would not be feeling that way.

Well done, I'm so pleased you have been successful.
    Thank you Sourcrates 😊
  • Thank you for posting as there may be others in your position who may also be successful in getting debts written off. Hopefully this will be one less mental stress for you. Please contact your GP if you are feeling suicidal.
I'm now getting alot of help mentally, and have medication so baby steps but hopefully things will improve

There is no timeframe on this. Most likely when you least expect it, the opportunity will present itself.

Delighted for you and hope the future goes well.

Just be aware that you may feel a bit strange in the next few days. Ever worked really, really hard to achieve something, and then when it happens, you are a bit flat afterwards? Whether it's a project or just Christmas?

This has been occupying a lot of your time, effort and mental space for a while. It may be worth talking through what you want to do instead and perhaps to allow yourself a little time to breathe?

    Whatever, enjoy.

Thank you RAS, you are spot on, I feel exactly that way, I thought I'd be elated and my depression would lift as soon as I heard from the last creditor, initially I sobbed that it was over, I expected to wake up this morning feeling so different but it hasn't happened yet ... I suppose this has absorbed my entire life for a few years so it will take time ... but on the up side right this minute I am sitting in the garden with my dogs enjoying a cuppa in the sun ( with agrapohobia this is something i haven't been able to do in forever!!!) So it's massive plus in the right direction!! Life IS good,
Baby steps moving forward to being human again without the weight of debt on my shoulders .... Next  goal a walk to the beach.

Baby steps, enjoy the dogs and the garden.

And plan sometime to walk the dogs on the beach?

Meantime, hugs to the dogs and you.
