Broken glass delivered by Amazon, cut myself, quick question

Hi, I was just looking for some sort of advice.

The other day I was delivered a jar of coconut oil from Amazon. It was loose in a box with a book with a thin layer of bubble wrap. As I was unwrapping it from the layer, I started unscrewing the top and felt a sharp pain in my hand, I looked down and was bleeding badly as a shard of glass had gone into my thumb. The far under the lid was completely shattered.
I took photos and told Amazon about it. Four days later and it's still painful, I cannot use the thumb. I think it needed a stitching/gluing, however I couldn't get to the hospital and I wasn't well enough to sit in A&E for hours.

This morning they offered me £25 without admission of liability as a goodwill gesture. They said they are unable to offer any more. I said I didn't think it reflected how severely I was injured. Later in the day they offered £50 (so they could offer more) again without admission of liability.

I just wanted to ask what I should do? Should I just take the £50?

Thanks for any help.

You received a glass jar in the post. The jar was not just cracked, it was completely shattered.

You have a good case for claiming a replacement or full refund, but you don't seem to have taken reasonable care with the glass jar which had been 'completely shattered' (your words) in the post.

What should you do? Take the £50.

    Thanks.

I was offered a refund right away and then it was escalated.

I didn't know it was shattered before I opened it. I wasn't playing around with shattered glass. The lid was holding it all together, when I twisted it open, it was all released into my hands.

Sorry I don't think I made that clear.

I wasn't really after anything, I have no idea to be honest. I didn't have anything planned, I just wondered if £50 from an injury from glass seemed about right.

There's no way of knowing, it's a gesture of goodwill, not compensation for a loss.  Personally, I think £50 is generous.  The risk of declining is that they withdraw the offer entirely.

Any claim for compensation isn't going to be helped by the fact that you haven't seen any medical professional about the injury.
Yeah, I don't really want to claim for anything. I couldn't go, the A&E times are crazy here, and I'm also vulnerable, so I can't easily risk getting COVID.

I don't think they'll withdraw it, I turned down £25 this morning a few times. Anyway, I don't really care, it's more that I'm really annoyed at them for this, it's still really painful and a chunk of it is still out of place.

Sorry some posters seem to think you're the cause of issues in the NHS, despite not going.

If there's no permanent issues and it's just an annoying cut £50 doesn't seem too unreasonable imo.

Thanks, that's what I was after, I'll take the £50.

It was kind of strange to be blamed for the NHS even though I had already said I didn't bother going. It was a strange take to have in all this, especially without knowing me at all. Thanks for that.
