Hi lovely MSE forumites, I’m hoping you can help me with a couple of queries which are quite similar….
1. My 12 yo is going on a school trip to Paris. He’ll take some cash, but school are not sure if cash will be accepted everywhere. Is there a pre-paid card you can recommend for him? I’ve looked at Revolut, as it was Martin’s best buy, but the u18 version isn’t as good and seems very complicated. I can’t work out whether I can just set up a card in my name, load it with the amount of Euros he needs and hand it to him to use? Any thoughts/solutions?
2. My 17 yo is also going to France, 3 days after she turns 18, travelling with a girlfriend. She will have a bit of cash, and she has her own debit card she can use in emergencies, but I’d like her to have something else to spread the risk if lost/stolen (paranoid mama). As she will only just be 18 we don’t have time to apply for new bank or credit card accounts so it seems that the pre-paid card will be a good fit. Again, is there any issue with me setting the account in my name and just giving her the card to use?
