Currently having a smart meter fitted now by Octopus Energy and have been told by the fitter there is no need for it. The certificate running out is just a ruse to get the meter fitted. Totally disgusted with Octopus, so much hassle they have given me to get it fitted. The fitter is refusing to have one fitted he's using the old analogue. My meters are only a good 20yrs old and nothing wrong with them ever. I'll be sent an email to Octopus see what they have to say.
Your fitter is being a trouble maker and you have fallen for it.

Would you be happy to buy a Kg of flour only to find that when you weighed the packet at home it was only 950g?
Why do you automatically assume that a meter that has been in place for some time would overead? Surely the converse is just as likely?

It is some time (but in my opinion not excessively so) since both my non smart meters were installed yet our usage of both gas and electricity for the last few years is the lowest it has been in the 30 odd years that we have been here.

My example was illustrative. I also said in the same post:

The Government is responsible for certification and its only concern is metering accuracy.’

Not surprising   -  think of the improvements to fridges/freezers/LED/boilers coupled with warmer winters and you've succumbed to the benefits of the  Smart advts and turn these lights etc off when not in use.
