Hi,
so, what readings correspond with your actual meter readings?gnilwob said:checking my electric statement from Octopus i have phoned and queried why i have customer readings and estimated and SMART METER readings when i don't have a smart meter fitted there reply my meter now sends them readings ? has anyone else had there meter set remotely without being notified.0 -
My smart meters are SMETS 1 and Octopus can read the electric meter but not the gas meter as the IHD doesn't work which, I believe, it has to connect too to get readings from the gas meter.Someone please tell me what money is1
-
Incorrect - the gas meter has to connect with the hub normally sitting on top of the leccy meter. If the IHD was involved then all the people who have binned or powered off their IHDs, would be making a complaint about gas meter readings being estimated !!wild666 said:My smart meters are SMETS 1 and Octopus can read the electric meter but not the gas meter as the IHD doesn't work which, I believe, it has to connect too to get readings from the gas meter.1 -
Hi All
Currently having a smart meter fitted now by Octopus Energy and have been told by the fitter there is no need for it. The certificate running out is just a ruse to get the meter fitted. Totally disgusted with Octopus, so much hassle they have given me to get it fitted. The fitter is refusing to have one fitted he's using the old analogue. My meters are only a good 20yrs old and nothing wrong with them ever. I'll be sent an email to Octopus see what they have to say.0 -
How do you know your 20 year old + meters have nothing wrong with them?
If someone told you they had been overreading by 5% for the past 5 years, would you be disgusted and emailing Octopus for a refund?0 -
I would be extremely surprised if the installer has access to the National Databases that show meter certification dates. Certification has nothing to do with whether your meters work or not. The Government is responsible for certification and its only concern is metering accuracy. Would you be happy to buy a Kg of flour only to find that when you weighed the packet at home it was only 950g?Horseygirl555_ said:Hi All

Meters do have a certification period. You would hope that they would not go wrong within the period of certification, although it can happen. So, your experience of reliability is what is expected. However, as they get older, reliability becomes an increasing concern. Certification is sometimes based on concerns of reliability and failure but also on the availability of parts and training of those who install or fix them. (simplified explanation).
Octopus have a page on it https://octopus.energy/blog/meter-certification-date/
