Ideas for wall covering?

I want to upgrade the inside of my porch to look a bit nicer. It is currently covered in shiplap that has been washed over with emulsion (and poorly done). Very ugly. There are gaps all around the bottom of the shiplap too.
I saved some skirting board offcuts from my last DIY project to add on, and I'd like to cover over the shiplap with something that looks nicer. I don't want to remove the shiplap and make the job big and messy because to be honest I plan to change the front door at some point in the next few years so I would likely do the whole job much more properly then.
Does anyone know of any interesting wall coverings that would go over shiplap (i.e probably not wallpaper, would need to be something thicker/more solid) that I could slap up for a bit of interest over the next few years?
My alternative plan was to just glue on 6mm MDF and paint it the same colour as the woodwork in the rest of my house.

We had it up both sides of our staircase. I took off one side thinking it'll be fine, but the plaster was rotten and took me weeks to get it right for wallpaper. I just painted over the other side. I did look at filling the gaps to a smooth finish and papering over but was too much for me.
If it was me, I'd paint with some decent paint, stick the skirting board on to cover the gaps, and leave it til the door is done.1 -
Photos, please, GSalad?
Do you mean 'shiplap' or vertical V-groove?
The latter can look really nice, if given a suitable colour in, say, eggshell.
A quick glance at Pinterest should give you some great examples.0 -

A quick glance at Pinterest should give you some great examples.That should be very doable, GS. A rub-down, and a nice 'country' colour in eggshell. Vertical V cladding is nice :-)Is it full height, or dado? If the latter, is there a good solid dado rail there?0 -
We are in the process of doing this;

we went with the full height one - its bloody heavy as its 2.4m high, 1.6m wide and 0.9cm thick, but its going to look nice once it's done. It might feel too similar to what you have though! In our bedroom we've done the decorative MDF panelling with a row of bobbins instead of dado rail and some decorative features also.1 -

I do however have quite a lot of white paint left from the colour I painted the upper part of my hallway so I am wondering if I can get away with using that (it's silk wall paint, not wood paint).
It's full height. It's even on the ceiling.0 -

The hallway is half painted orange and half painted white with black accents and walnut floors.
I found in a box not-yet-unpacked (we moved in LAST spring, oops) a set of white shelves with beech brackets. I'm considering just properly "finishing" what I currently have (skirtings, slim coving, caulk in the gappy edges), painting it properly with something nice and then just decorating it a bit. I can put bits for the dog on hooks and the shelves (muddy paw wipes and towels!) and a nice picture or two. And then maybe a boot rack for our walking boots.0 -
Pine match boarding is very 60/70s either on walls or ceilings. Just paint it any colour you wish and hang a teak framed mirror in front.0
