Next Loyalty 12M Fixed Rate - July 23 Issue 1
I have been offered that fix as my V15 is coming to an end. At present  it IS cheaper than the estimated variable rate BUT the terms and conditions state that you have to have a Smart Meter installed.

"you also agree to have a smart meter installed where eligible. An exit fee of £75 per fuel will be applied if you change supplier before your tariff end date."

For various reasons, we are resisting this. Remember they will have more control in the future over how you receive energy if you have a Smart Meter. But if you're perfectly happy with this then fine.
There MAY be a time when we have to have one, or are forced to, but at present, I prefer to be in control.

If you have smart meters you can control how much you pay per unit by choosing a smart tariff. For example, my gas today is 3.71p per kWh.

If I didn't have a smart meter I wouldn't have a choice, less control, and would be paying around 11p per kWh. I feel I have more control because of my smart meter.

@rockers you definitely have less control over your energy prices without a smart meter.

I don't have a smart meter BUT its May and i have not used any gas today.
    3.71p x 0 = 0, 10p x 0 =0.

E.on kept badgering me to confirm a smart meter appointment last year, I finally did and they said 'sorry, we can't fit a smart meter for your account'   :D

I wonder what would happen if I accept this tariff and they still can't do it...

Is it not simply that it's being offered as an option to customers whose fixes are coming to an end?
No as mine is up next week and I’m not being offered it

Smart meters was not an issue for me as the property already had them when I moved in in 2018. SMETS1 meters installed by Scottish Power in 2017 being read quite satisfactorily by E.ON. Before them even Symbio could read the electricity meter, and SSE could read the gas meter. And I can read all the usage data using the Bright app. I'm not really understanding some people's resistance to smart meters.
  • I have also been offered the same deal as jbuchanangb but at slightly lower rates. Elec SC 36p, rate 29.7, Gas sc 14.81, rate 8.23. I was going to wait but after reading MSE predictions I am going to take before it goes

In a strange twist the confirmation e-mail from E.ON spells out different (higher) rates to those quoted online, and indeed still showing online when I log on to my account. Anyway, here are the rates for the proposed tariff, as on the web site:
Proposed Electricity rates (inc. VAT): Daily: 37.11. Units: 30.02.

Proposed Electricity rates (exc. VAT): Daily: 35.34. Units: 28.59.

Proposed gas rates (inc. VAT): Daily: 14.81. Units: 8.36

Proposed gas rates (exc. VAT): Daily: 14.10. Units: 7.96
Looks ok based on today's announcement and you get lower standing charges

For anyone considering a fix that want to take into account the ver changing forecasts.

Here is the screenshot showing current and proposed tariffs:

Interesting, my quote for gas on the same Jul 23 Iss 1 is slightly less at 8.28 unit and same 14.81 sc.

I see the new v2 just come out is 7.43 unit and 29.11 sc, that makes the v2 an extra £52 a year on the standing charge, crikey

My parents have a prepayment smart meter for gas, who is the supplier so I can look into it?
