Hi, Next door neighbours changed their kitchen layout so they added a new window opposite where our garden door opens.

The wall you see is about 4 foot high.

Can anyone suggest how I can block that area, ideally something 6ft high and 4-5ft wide?

I know absolutely zero about gardens and as little about DIY so I'm looking for simple solutions that don't test my non DIY skills. Eg drilling into very old brick walls etc.

I'll need to use this solution in a couple of areas of the garden hence looking for low cost options

Many thanks

trees in pots, or put in woode posts, then horizontal 2 x4 s across. There is no cheap non DIY solution, not really, there are trees in pots, specifically pleached trees or multi stemmed trees, which are more expensive than posts and 2x4s...

Some lightweight trellis would help. But would need to be attached to the wall….tall plants/shrubs/trees in troughs or pots would also work but would be quite expensive. Depends if you want a green leafy screen or just a screen of any kind. I think you can also buy panels of artificial greenery, but again they need attaching to the wall and aren’t cheap

Thanks. Not fussed about the look, just want the practicality.

I'm sure I can drill a few holes if need be.

Any type of screen is fine.  Plants would be expensive

Plants/pots probably depends on how much sun that bit gets I would think? But it might be the best option.

Combining the ideas could be a climbing plant and a trellis in plant pot. Something like these:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stewart-Terrace-Trough-100-Mocha/dp/B00H46J7Z2/ref=asc_df_B00H46J7Z2/

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Oypla-Trellis-Fencing-Climbing-Trellises/dp/B071HJ14JN/ref=sr_1_9

Then check your local garden centre for a couple of clematis per trough?

You might want touse something like no more nails (they make it for external use - check the tube) to secure them towards the top of the wall to reduce the risk of topple. Minimal DIY skills required!

My garden centre has a selection of rolls of plastic screening which resembles  plants such as ivy, clematis  etc.

TWO wooden posts sunk in the ground , or attached to the wall, .and string a length between them, along the top of the wall.

Bamboo in troughs was my first thought
But not exactly low cost. I guess you only need one trough and 3 bamboo. If you can get some old pallets, knock them apat with a hammer and nail them into a trough.
Line with a black bin bag (strong) and cut and staple. Stab a few holes for water drainage and plant.

If you don't want to Morrison do troughs and bamboo at a good price.

Probably a couple of post holders glued to the ground, a couple of posts with some trellis attached would be a bit cheaper but would blow down in winter gales. You could take it down in winter.
Cheaper by a bit but less reliable.

I would agree with bamboo in troughs too - bit of investment but worth it

With the wall in your first post, for the supports, I'd be tempted to try something like 'no more nails waterproof' (whatever you buy, check it's suitable for exterior use). Brush down the area and remove any dirt/plants/loose render (stiff brush should do it), then follow the instructions (most of the time it's apply to both surfaces then wait until a little tacky before pushing firmly and holding for another 5/10 mins - then leave for a day or two for it to cure before adding any weight).

Then, as 2p says, you can just staple the screen to the supports.
