Paper Self Assessment

Options
Hi,
Hoping someone can help me please?
I need to complete a Self Assessment form for 2018 -2019. Unfortunately I cannot do this online due to age and need to complete on paper.
I phoned HMRC (3rd time all related issues) and was told they cannot send me a form but I can print off one online and then send to them by post.
I have looked but cannot see how I can print. I did find the right place however, and it says to 'call HMRC and request form SA100'
Does anyone know if it is actually possible to print a form?
I am at my wits end dealing with these people, especially as it takes about 1 hour to get through on the phone.
I am not very experienced with completing SA as I am PAYE. I only need to do this as HMRC are claiming back Child Benefit, which I genuinely didn't know I wasn't entitled too but that's a seperate issue.
TIA.

  • 2018/19 is now out of date to complete. For what reason do you believe that you need to complete for that year?

Have HMRC asked you to complete a return?
  • Originally I was told I needed to submit 2021-2022 at end of last year via letter. This was the first contact I had about HICBC. I submitted the SA as requested and paid the charge.
Out of the blue last week, I get 2 letters both relating to late return of SA forms for 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 and each charging £100 (£200 in total)
I phoned to query this as I hadn't been sent anything and was told I should have been told to complete SA for these years and also for 2018-2019.
Over the weekend I completed SA for 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 but wasn't able to do 2018-2019 as mentioned above.
This is what my tax account says.

I believe that you will have to contact them - 2018/19 was ‘in date’ on 17th January 2023. (How you would have been able to file online is beyond me!)

    Try telephoning at 8am.
  • OK thanks I will call them again for the 4th time and ask them the same question.
I appreciate your assistance in reinforcing I wasn't doing anything wrong.
I honestly think HMRC deliberately make things difficult so they can squeeze more money from us. Ironic that we are warned about fraudsters yet it is our own HMRC that is the biggest PITA.

Whatever you do don't just ask for a 2018-19 return.

Explain HMRC have instructed you to complete a return and as you cannot do this online (no one can) you will need them to send you a paper return.

If they repeat the print one off online story just ask them for the (full) web address where this can be achieved.

It's probably in the National Archives somewhere.

Here are versions of the 2000 SA100

    Tax Return (2020) (publishing.service.gov.uk)

    Employment page

    Employment (2020) (publishing.service.gov.uk)

Print them off, change the year and fill them in.

  • A 2018 - 2019 SA100 tax return is available here:

  • Thanks everyone, more help here in the last 2 hours than I got from HMRC in months.

When you do complete it make absolutely certain you have got it right before posting it back to HMRC.

In particular don't forget to include any RAS pension contributions made that year.
