More decent applicants than they have jobs?  Were they filling just one or two roles or large numbers?

    Thank you guys

I will email the last company and asked them for the reason.
I would not ask for a reason but rather ask for feedback to help.you going forward.

Depending on the size of the company they may have some rule about needing to interview 5 times the number of people that they need to hire.  And if they have 1 absolutely brilliant cv and 4 less brilliant they may well have made up their minds before the actual interview.  So it may not have anything whatsoever to do with you.  And the feedback you get may be helpful ("sorry but because this is working in a environment where IT is central and you said you can't stand using computers") or it may be the bland "there was a more qualified individual".

Also not only are credit reports time consuming to run each one costs the company ££ so they will only do them if absolutely necessary.

I was asked to explain why I had so many current accounts and credit cards once after a credit check for a job at a car finance company. It didn't affect my offer but was a contributing factor in my decision to take a different job.

Just got a reply from one of the jobs I went for, they simply said they found someone with more experience.

    I guess it's a start.

Aside from it being given to someone with 21 years of warehouse experience, maybe there was an aspect of the role you undersold your experience in without realizing it, or possibly they had something specific in mind but didn't mention it in the requirements, to get more applicants?

Have you had any help with interview technique?

Google 'competency based interviews' and see if that offers anything useful about the type of questions they have been asking, and how to answer them.

It depends what they want and who you are up against. If there are 20 equally experienced people then you'll have to stand out in some way. They might also prefer someone younger and cheaper over someone more experiece, but obviously they wont admit that. Sometimes they know who they want but have to interview a number of people to satisfy their recruitment policy.
