I can only comment on a Samsung phone but with that I just touch the 3 vertical lines (bottom left) to reduce the screen and touch "Close all" to clear everything that's open.

There's one app that continues in the background (my watch) but you have the option to kill that if necessary.

I don't use pure Android (Samsung user) but, it sounds like you are doing everything with gesture control and have the 3 buttons at the bottom hidden. If this is the case make the reappear and then closing your apps becomes simpler by just using the left hand button to open all open apps and then just swiping them away individually, or closing all apps.
If it doesn't work like that on Android 13 apologies.

Thanks, RR. That would be great - I'd LOVE them 'buttons' back! Perfect solution!

I fear it ain't an option,  tho', but will check

Try  Settings - Accessability - System Controls - System Navigation - 3 button navigation....

On my newish Moto G31 it's the right button But the antique Huawei G300 is 'press and hold the home button'

I can confirm it's the RH button - a square - to display all the open apps, and the LH button - an 'arrow' to go 'back'. The central round one for 'home'.

    And it's fantastic.

Tho' it took me two days to unlearn the stupid swiping malarkey.

This is the most useful thing I've seen on here this month, thanks!

The buttons are about 100,000,000 times better than that stupid little bar to drag up, that usually I mess up and start pulling up all my apps.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Thanks, but I think overkill in this situation.

The restoration of the 'three buttons' has been a perfect solution.
