Guessing there used to be a closer one if the account has been open for 50 years! For that sort of banking where you still use cheque book it probably would have been best to switch as soon as the local branch closed down.Intoodeep said:

Guessing by @Intoodeep 's use of the word 'was' it is no longer there, but they are.

If Barclays KYC is as bad as HSBC business banking, you'll probably find that they repeatedly and silently dropped the KYC process.
I got three requests inside 18 months for HSBC's "safeguard" KYC process, and ended up complaining.
I found out that the first two processes were silently closed without putting the tick in the box to say "job done".
I only put an end to the palaver after the third request when I insisted that they carry out and complete their KYC process, and if they didn't I would report them to the FCA for their compliance failings, and the ICO for failure to process data fairly.
You wouldn't mind, but for each request they changed their process, so documents which were accepted on the earlier attempts were rejected on subsequent ones. And replying to each request, generated a further request for additional/replacement information.
You wouldn't mind, but the account is for a company that is run by unpaid volunteer directors - HSBC were complete time thieves.
I would suggest parallel complaints to Barclays, FCA (re poor compliance) and ICO (re failure to fairly process personal data, assuming they asked for personal information regarding office holders/committee etc). Then if the Barclays complaint gets bounced/ignored head off to the Financial Ombudsman.

I'd go for Virgin Money for business banking, good service, products and suitable for nearly all types of business customers.1
