Options
For inputting your priority bills and categories like entertainment, food, travel etc. I've asked for this query before, but no-one suggested anything.

I find this one is quite good for tracking spending: http://www.mhriley.com/spendingtracker/

I find a good old spreadsheet works well enough for me.

I used to record everything in Gnucash but now bank with Starling, which tracks spending and income automatically.

If you use a card for every possible transaction, you don't run the risk of 'forgetting' all the things you've spent your money on. £3.00 on a coffee every day on the way to work is £30 after two weeks...
No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...

Not so sure about a specific budgeting app in particular, although I do know that the Virgin Money app has a budgeting app built in on the homepage. I personally find it quite useful. I'm not sure if HSBC has a similar balance after bills feature, but I don't think it's as advanced.

I used to use spreadsheet but earlier this year I started with “youneedabudget”
it’s about £85.00 per year subject to exchange rates but it’s simple, imports transactions from the bank and you create the monthly expense needed including “true expenses”
not everyone would be happy to pay annual fees but I find it really helpful.

Reason why I ask is that I work with vulnerable people and some of them have real issues controlling their spending (they have a lot of debts) and don't seem to know how to break this habit or/change their mindset about spending on non-essentials. (A lot of them have kids, so will buy clothes, games, presents etc.) I tend to refer people to debt support agencies but most don't deal with them as they'd rather carry-on and hope for the best.
